2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Richard Norbert "Dick" Friedel of Rock |
4 | | Island, who passed away on February 10, 2020; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dick Friedel was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin to |
6 | | Norbert and Leone (Wood) Friedel on March 25, 1938; he |
7 | | graduated from St. Mary's Springs Academy in Fond du Lac; he |
8 | | served active and reserve military duty in the U.S. Army; he |
9 | | earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from |
10 | | St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin in 1961; he married |
11 | | Marlene J. Kordick at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Des |
12 | | Moines, Iowa on October 16, 1965; they settled permanently in |
13 | | Rock Island, where they raised their two children; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Dick Friedel was employed as a pharmaceutical |
15 | | sales representative by SmithKline & French Laboratories, |
16 | | which later became GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) through a series of |
17 | | corporate mergers; he retired from GSK in 2003, after 38 years |
18 | | of service; he then worked as a part-time driver for Hot Shots |
19 | | Nuclear Medicine in Davenport, Iowa; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Dick Friedel was deeply committed to his faith and |
21 | | was an active member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock |
22 | | Island, where he sang in the adult and funeral choirs and was a |

1 | | perpetual adoration volunteer; he was a member of the Allouez |
2 | | Council 658 Knights of Columbus, Edward J. Bader Assembly |
3 | | Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus; he was recognized by his |
4 | | council as Knight of the Year in 1967 and Senior Knight of the |
5 | | Year in 2009; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Dick Friedel enjoyed hunting and watching sports, |
7 | | especially the Green Bay Packers football team; he was also |
8 | | known for never forgetting a name or a detail about someone he |
9 | | met; he leaves a legacy of faith, hard work, determination, and |
10 | | love of family; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Dick Friedel was preceded in death by his wife of |
12 | | 53 years, Marlene; his parents; his brother, William; and his |
13 | | infant sister, Mary Therese; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Dick Friedel is survived by his daughter, Jennifer |
15 | | (James) Sautter; his son, Thomas (Dana) Friedel; his |
16 | | grandchildren, John, William, Monica, and Joseph; his |
17 | | siblings, Ronald (Sandy) Friedel, John (Jennifer) Friedel, and |
18 | | Julie (Tom) Petrie; and his many nieces, nephews, and extended |
19 | | family members; therefore, be it

20 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
21 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
22 | | Richard Norbert "Dick" Friedel and extend our sincere |
