| 2 | WHEREAS, The Teach Kindness initiative is a national | ||||||
| 3 | social-emotional learning program
organized by Stand for | ||||||
| 4 | Children that provides high-quality classroom lessons from | ||||||
| 5 | national
experts, including Harvard's Making Caring Common | ||||||
| 6 | Initiative, Facing History and Ourselves,
InspirED, the | ||||||
| 7 | Greater Good Science Center, and Yale's Center for Emotional | ||||||
| 8 | Intelligence; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, The goal of Teach Kindness is to make schools | ||||||
| 10 | kinder and more welcoming
places for students to thrive by | ||||||
| 11 | strengthening peer relationships, building empathy, and
| ||||||
| 12 | developing positive mindsets; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Wagoner Elementary School in Community | ||||||
| 14 | Consolidated School District 168 in
Sauk Village was one of | ||||||
| 15 | over 650 schools across the country that registered for the | ||||||
| 16 | Fall
2019 Teach Kindness Challenge; and | ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Wagoner Elementary School teachers and staff | ||||||
| 18 | demonstrated an exceptional
commitment to intentionally | ||||||
| 19 | teaching and fostering kindness among their students and
| ||||||
| 20 | strengthening the welcoming atmosphere in the school; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Wagoner Elementary School students went above and | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | beyond the requirements of
the 30-day Teach Kindness challenge, | ||||||
| 2 | transforming their learning environment and
fundamentally | ||||||
| 3 | shifting student behavior; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, The Wagoner Elementary School community has made a | ||||||
| 5 | long-term commitment to
purposefully spreading kindness in | ||||||
| 6 | their school, community, and world; and
| ||||||
| 7 | WHEREAS, Wagoner Elementary School has been selected as the | ||||||
| 8 | 2020 National Winner of the Teach Kindness
Challenge, a | ||||||
| 9 | recognition that carries a $5,000 credit at DonorsChoose.org; | ||||||
| 10 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 11 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
| 12 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the | ||||||
| 13 | students, teachers, leaders, and staff of Wagoner Elementary | ||||||
| 14 | School on their well-deserved recognition; and be it further
| ||||||
| 15 | RESOLVED, That we declare February 24, 2020 as "Teach | ||||||
| 16 | Kindness Day" in the State of Illinois; and be it further | ||||||
| 17 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 18 | presented to Wagoner Elementary School as a symbol of our | ||||||
| 19 | appreciation for their ongoing commitment to making the world a
| ||||||
| 20 | kinder place.
