| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Mark L. Dames of Joliet, who passed away |
| 4 | | on February 8, 2020; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Mark Dames was born to Fred C. and Louise |
| 6 | | (Wilhemi) Dames on July 19, 1932; he was raised in Joliet; he |
| 7 | | attended St. John Catholic Grade School and St. Raymond |
| 8 | | Catholic Grade School; he graduated from Joliet Township High |
| 9 | | School in 1950; he graduated from Joliet Junior College and |
| 10 | | Worsham College of Mortuary Science; he served in the U.S. Air |
| 11 | | Force during the Korean War, serving in Japan and Korea from |
| 12 | | 1952 to 1956; and
|
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Following his military service, Mark Dames went to |
| 14 | | work with his father and brother at the Fred C. Dames Funeral |
| 15 | | Home & Crematory; after his father's untimely death in 1962, he |
| 16 | | and his brother assumed responsibility for the business; he |
| 17 | | worked as a funeral director until his retirement; and
|
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Mark Dames was involved in a number of |
| 19 | | organizations, including the Benevolent and Protective Order |
| 20 | | of the Elks #296, the Cantigny Post VFW #367, the Harwood Post |
| 21 | | American Legion #5, the Knights of Columbus Council #4400 as a |
| 22 | | 4th Degree Knight, and the Illinois Funeral Directors |

| 1 | | Association, which honored him with a 50-year award; he was a |
| 2 | | former member of the Knights of Columbus Council #382, the |
| 3 | | Joliet Noon Lions, and the Exchange Club; he was proud to be |
| 4 | | selected for a Veterans Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on |
| 5 | | August 10, 2016; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Mark Dames relished spending time with his family; |
| 7 | | he also enjoyed traveling across the U.S. and overseas |
| 8 | | alongside his wife, walking and collecting shells on Siesta Key |
| 9 | | Beach in Florida, eating, drinking, dancing, laughing, and |
| 10 | | telling jokes; he was known for being able to recall the name |
| 11 | | and details of everyone he met; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Mark Dames was preceded in death by his parents; |
| 13 | | his sisters, Joan Dames and Marilynn (Ray) Offerman; his |
| 14 | | brother, Joel L. (Arlene) Dames; and his brothers-in-law, Jerry |
| 15 | | Orzech and Richard Brady; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Mark Dames is survived by his wife of 59 years, |
| 17 | | Sharon A. (Healy) Dames; his sons, Jeffrey M. (Tina) Dames, |
| 18 | | Brian L. (Shelley) Dames, and Fred J. (Theresa) Dames; his |
| 19 | | daughter, Melissa "Missy" Dames; his grandchildren, Lexie |
| 20 | | Dames, Jeffrey Dames Jr., Sarah (Nick) Holloway, Shannon |
| 21 | | (Grant) Simotes, Shaun Dames, Mark Dames, Julia Dames, and |
| 22 | | Taryn Skoumal; his stepgrandchildren, Heather (Jose) Flores |
| 23 | | and Joshua Stroh; his step-great-granddaughter, Hailey Wong; |

| 1 | | and his sisters, Paula Brady and Gervaise Orzech; his numerous |
| 2 | | nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends, and countless |
| 3 | | surviving client families; therefore, be it

| 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
| 5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
| 6 | | Mark L. Dames and extend our sincere condolences to his family, |
| 7 | | friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
|
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 9 | | presented to the family of Mark Dames as an expression of our |
| 10 | | deepest sympathy.
