SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Joe M. Davis of Joliet, who passed away
4on November 19, 2019; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Joe Davis was born to Mack C. Davis and Eva M.
6Davis in Cairo on September 29, 1940; during his childhood, he
7sang in his church's choir/male chorus and was a cheerful
8greeter; he graduated from Lockport Township High School
9(Porters), where he was an outstanding basketball player; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Joe Davis was employed as a supervisor at Quantum
11Chemical Corp. for many years; he was a skilled barber in the
12Joliet area for over 50 years and also worked as a carpenter
13and as a mechanic; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Joe Davis formerly belonged to the Beacon Club of
15Joliet and Stone City Lodge #35 PHA; he was also an Associate
16Member of the National Hook-Up of Black Women, Inc; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Joe Davis was awarded a Proclamation from the City
18of Joliet for his bravery in saving a young girl from being
19attacked by a vicious dog; he also received a Lifetime Member
20Award from the NAACP; and

1    WHEREAS, Joe Davis had a passion for cooking and for
2keeping his yard manicured with beautiful flowers; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Joe Davis was preceded in death by his parents,
4Mack C. Davis and Eva M. Davis; his maternal and paternal
5grandparents; his sister, Joyce M. Davis; his granddaughter,
6Justinnai M. Davis; and his three nephews, Steven Davis,
7Clarence West Jr., and Damion Davis; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Joe Davis is survived by his two sons, Brian Davis
9and Justin (Jamece) Davis; his two daughters, Cynthia (William)
10Bailey and Eunice Dzukey; his two sisters, Alice M. (the late
11Clarence) West, and Barbara J. (the late Ray) Williams; his two
12brothers, Robert (Carolyn) Davis and Ronald (Kristen) Davis;
13his six grandchildren; his four great grandchildren; his
14special niece, Jodie; his special cousin, Rev. Claude (Petrula)
15Shelby, his special lifelong friends, Early Deloach, Leroy
16Stevens, and Gregory Warren; and his numerous nieces, nephews,
17and cousins; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Joe M. Davis and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
21friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
