| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Gloster Van Richardson of Chicago, who |
| 4 | | passed away on February 27, 2020; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Gloster Van Richardson was born in Greenville, |
| 6 | | Mississippi on July 18, 1942; he played college football at |
| 7 | | Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Gloster Van Richardson was drafted to play for the |
| 9 | | Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL in 1965; he ultimately played |
| 10 | | wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Dallas Cowboys, |
| 11 | | and the Cleveland Browns; he became a two-time NFL Superbowl |
| 12 | | champion while playing for the Kansas City Chiefs in 1970 and |
| 13 | | the Dallas Cowboys in 1971; in all, he played in 92 |
| 14 | | professional games, catching 92 passes for 1,976 yards and 18 |
| 15 | | touchdowns; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, After playing in the NFL for 10 years, Gloster Van |
| 17 | | Richardson returned to Chicago and worked as a physical |
| 18 | | education teacher for 25 years; he was the football coach at |
| 19 | | Kennedy-King College in Chicago, becoming one of the first |
| 20 | | football coaches at the City Colleges of Chicago; he taught |
| 21 | | football fundamentals to students from the Englewood Community |
| 22 | | and throughout the Chicago area; and
