SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Marion Alexander Collins of Moline, who passed away on March 3, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Marion Collins was born to Alphonso and Mattie Pennington Collins in Marion on September 22, 1943; he graduated from Rock Island High School in 1961 and attended North Carolina (Greensboro) A&T College where he majored in music; always a romantic, Marion married Cathy (Mattox) Collins in Moline on Valentine's Day in 1998; and

WHEREAS, Marion was a U.S. Army veteran who served during Vietnam; after the war, he began an over 30 year career as a youth counselor and music director at the Arrowhead Ranch youth treatment facility in Coal Valley; and

WHEREAS, Marion Collins had three strong foundations in his life, family, music, and service; throughout his life, he taught, inspired, accompanied, and entertained thousands through his musical mastery; and

WHEREAS, Marion Collins was preceded in death by his parents, Alphonso and Mattie Pennington Collins, and his first wife, Helen (Pettigrew) Collins; and

WHEREAS, Marion Collins is survived by his loving wife, Cathy (Mattox) Collins; his daughter, Carla Collins; his son, Rich Bassford; his grandchildren, Bailey Bassford, Riley Bassford, and Kelly (Max Turner) Marsh; his brothers, Alphonso (Sharon) Collins Jr., Mervyn (Carol) Collins, and Jim (Karen) Collins; his very close friend, Dean Davis; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins across the country; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Marion Alexander Collins and extended our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all those who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marion Collins as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
