| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of Marion Alexander Collins of Moline, who |
| 4 | | passed away on March 3, 2020; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Marion Collins was born to Alphonso and Mattie |
| 6 | | Pennington Collins in Marion on September 22, 1943; he |
| 7 | | graduated from Rock Island High School in 1961 and attended |
| 8 | | North Carolina (Greensboro) A&T College where he majored in |
| 9 | | music; always a romantic, Marion married Cathy (Mattox) Collins |
| 10 | | in Moline on Valentine's Day in 1998; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Marion was a U.S. Army veteran who served during |
| 12 | | Vietnam; after the war, he began an over 30 year career as a |
| 13 | | youth counselor and music director at the Arrowhead Ranch youth |
| 14 | | treatment facility in Coal Valley;
and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Marion Collins had three strong foundations in his |
| 16 | | life, family, music, and service; throughout his life, he |
| 17 | | taught, inspired, accompanied, and entertained thousands |
| 18 | | through his musical mastery; and
|
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Marion Collins was preceded in death by his |
| 20 | | parents, Alphonso and Mattie Pennington Collins, and his first |
| 21 | | wife, Helen (Pettigrew) Collins; and
