SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Leonard E. Krusemark of Lincoln, who
4passed away on May 1, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark was born to Elmer and Ruth Gould
6Krusemark in San Jose, Illinois on March 18, 1930; he graduated
7from Hartsburg High School in 1947 and attended the University
8of Illinois, joining the ROTC; he married Betty Ann Cross in
9Emden on January 22, 1950; while serving in the Illinois
10National Guard after college, Leonard's unit was called up in
111951; commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in Officer Training
12and Communications, he and his family were stationed at Ft.
13Benning, Georgia, Camp Cooke, California, and Ft. Lewis,
14Washington until after the Korean War ended in 1953; after his
15service, he farmed for over 50 years on the family property
16southwest of Emden; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Serving the community was important to Leonard
18Krusemark, and he was happiest when he found some way to help;
19he served in leadership positions on the Farm Bureau and the
20Soil and Water Conservation Board; he also held a position on
21the Hartsburg-Emden School Board and tutored younger students
22in math and reading; in 2009, he received the Hartem Alumni
23Wall of Fame "Service to the District" Award for his efforts;

1he was a regular and committed blood donor who donated over 23
2gallons of blood over the years; he also served as a volunteer
3at the Abraham Lincoln Hospital in Lincoln; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark worked on several projects for
5the Logan County Habitat for Humanity and served on the Board
6of Directors for 25 years; in recognition, he was presented an
7Honorary Lifetime Membership award in 2019; Leonard was
8instrumental in securing and building the first Habitat house
9in Emden, and he was honored as the Lincoln Courier Citizen of
10the Year in 1998 for his contributions; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark was an active member of St.
12Peter Lutheran Church in Emden, where he taught an adult Sunday
13School class for over 50 years; he also served on the Church
14Council and the Worship Planning Committee, taught the Bethel
15Bible Series, was a member and past president of the Men in
16Mission Organization, was a member of Men's Brotherhood, and
17sang in the church choir; in the absence of a regular pastor,
18he taught confirmation classes; Leonard was continually active
19in Kogudus, by which thousands of people deepened their faith
20through weekend retreats and continued fellowship; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark made family a priority and
22especially enjoyed the annual summer camp outs with his
23children and grandchildren; music was a big part of Leonard's

1life, and he instilled that love of music in his family; he
2will be remembered as a faithful, selfless, honest, loyal,
3humble, and generous man, full of integrity; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark was preceded in death by his
5parents; his beloved wife of 67 years, Betty Ann; his sister,
6Violet Alberts; and his daughter, Kay Tubbs; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Leonard Krusemark is survived by his four
8daughters, Sue Krusemark, Jill (Jamie) Voyles, Jan (Brian)
9Anderson, and Joy (Larry) Knicl; his son-in-law, Dick Tubbs;
10his eight grandchildren, Adam (Mel Bise) Voyles, Collin
11(Jessica Martin) Voyles, Shelby (Jake Mohr) Voyles, Erik
12Anderson, Claire (Brandon) Schnier, Alex (Katelyn) Knicl,
13Scott (Jessica) Knicl, and Lauren Knicl; his three
14great-grandchildren, Raelynn, Ally, and Dominic Knicl; his
15sister, Mary Lou Klokkenga; his brothers, Larry (Becky)
16Krusemark and Dave (Noi) Krusemark; and his many nieces and
17nephews; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
20Leonard E. Krusemark and extend our sincere condolences to his
21family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it

3of our deepest sympathy.
