| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
| 3 | learn of the death of William G. "Bill" Harvey of Springfield, | ||||||
| 4 | who passed away on April 18, 2020; and
| ||||||
| 5 | WHEREAS, Bill Harvey was born in Sandoval to William Andrew | ||||||
| 6 | and Ruby P. (McClelland) Harvey on November 27, 1925; he served | ||||||
| 7 | in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946; he graduated from Iowa | ||||||
| 8 | State University College of Engineering in 1948; he married | ||||||
| 9 | Mary Katherine Wethington on July 2, 1949, and she preceded him | ||||||
| 10 | in death on February 22, 2018; and
| ||||||
| 11 | WHEREAS, Bill Harvey was employed by both the Chicago and | ||||||
| 12 | Illinois Midland Railroad and Commonwealth Edison (Exelon) his | ||||||
| 13 | entire life; he retired as President of the C&IM Railroad in | ||||||
| 14 | 1987; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Bill Harvey was an official, board member, and | ||||||
| 16 | trustee of the Abraham Lincoln Council, Boy Scouts of America | ||||||
| 17 | from 1973 to 1986; he was awarded the "Silver Beaver" Award in | ||||||
| 18 | 1986; he served as a board member and secretary of the Greater | ||||||
| 19 | Springfield Chamber of Commerce; he was also a member of the | ||||||
| 20 | Masonic Lodge, the Rotary Club, and the Order of the Elks; and
| ||||||
| 21 | WHEREAS, Bill Harvey took great pleasure in spending time | ||||||
| |||||||
| |||||||
| 1 | with his beloved dog, Penny; he enjoyed watching his children | ||||||
| 2 | and grandchildren at sporting events and special occasions, and | ||||||
| 3 | he never missed a game or event; he also enjoyed vacationing in | ||||||
| 4 | Florida during the winter months and loved to have his family | ||||||
| 5 | join him; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Bill Harvey was preceded in death by his parents | ||||||
| 7 | and his sisters, Margaret Harvey, Winifred L. Britt, Ada Marie | ||||||
| 8 | Haworth, and C. Aline Sumner; and
| ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Bill Harvey is survived by his sons, William A. | ||||||
| 10 | (Theresa Bright) Harvey and Gary D. (Deb) Harvey; his daughter, | ||||||
| 11 | Carol L. Ed; his grandchildren, Christopher (Lisa) Ed, Todd Ed, | ||||||
| 12 | Joshua Ed, and Jason William (Leah) Harvey; and his | ||||||
| 13 | great-grandchildren, Emma Ed and Alex Ed; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 14 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
| 15 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | ||||||
| 16 | William G. "Bill" Harvey and extend our sincere condolences to | ||||||
| 17 | his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | ||||||
| 18 | further
| ||||||
| 19 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 20 | presented to the family of Bill Harvey as an expression of our | ||||||
| 21 | deepest sympathy.
