SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Henry Albert "Alby" Plain of Springfield, who passed away on April 19, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Alby Plain was born in Springfield to Henry U. and Nova Brantley Plain on July 28, 1927; he attended Springfield High School and graduated from The Todd School in 1945; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and graduated from the University of Illinois in 1950; he was a varsity baseball pitcher while at the University of Illinois and played professional baseball for four years in the minor leagues for the Chicago Cubs; he married Dolores Hashman in 1953; he married Marian McDermott in 2000; and

WHEREAS, Alby Plain became a teacher for the Springfield School District in 1953 and was an assistant basketball coach for Springfield High School when they won the championship in 1959; he was the head basketball coach for Springfield High School from 1962 to 1965; he received a master's degree from Illinois State University in 1966 and became a counselor at Springfield High School; he was the head counselor and assistant principal at Springfield High School when he retired in 1988; he was also the treasurer of the Springfield Teacher's Credit Union for 12 years; and

WHEREAS, During the summers from 1958 to 1970, Alby Plain and Cliff Tozer ran TP Day Camp for Springfield youth; and

WHEREAS, Alby Plain was inducted into the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame; he was member of Blessed Sacrament Parish and the Sangamo Club and was a past member of the American Business Club; he loved to play golf with his friends at The Rail; and

WHEREAS, Alby Plain was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores; his second wife, Marian; and his brother, Richard Brantley Plain; and

WHEREAS, Alby Plain is survived by his daughter, Sally Marie (Hank) Steining; his son, Henry Albert (Lisa) Plain Jr.; his stepchildren, John Richard (Barb) McDermott Jr., Michael Edwards "Muggs" (Denise) McDermott, Kevin Neerman McDermott, Martha Louise "Cookie" McDermott, Maureen Lynn "Bubby" (Travis) Wayne, John Peter McDermott, and Melissa Leigh McDermott; his grandchildren, Caitlyn Jane Steining (Jay) Wilson, Henry Albert (Jessica) Plain III, and Alexandra Marie Plain (Tommy) Carter; and three great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Henry Albert "Alby" Plain and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Alby Plain as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
