SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James A. "Jim" Doerfler, who passed away on April 17, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was born in Springfield to Fred W. and Pauline C. (Schmelter) Doerfler on July 25, 1929; he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and married Rita R. Patton in Springfield in 1952; and

WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was a professional engineer in Illinois and a registered land surveyor in Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Kentucky; he retired from the engineering consulting firm of Crawford, Murphy and Tilly in January of 1991; and

WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers Illinois, the Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, the Missouri Association of Registered Land Surveyors, the American Congress on Survey and Mapping, the American Arbitration Associations, the International Right of Way Association, and the Knights of Columbus; and

WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert, Gene, and George Doerfler; and his sisters, Shirley Ann Doerfler and Mary C. "Mae" Chambers; and

WHEREAS, Jim Doerfler is survived by his wife, Rita; his sons, David (Karen), Michael (Becky), Steve (Nancy), Terry (Susan), and Darrin (Dana) Doerfler; his daughter, Merrie Karen (Michael) Hiefner; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James A. "Jim" Doerfler and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jim Doerfler as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
