2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Dorothy Agnes Tracy of Mt. Sterling, who |
4 | | passed away on March 27, 2020; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Tracy was born to Lawrence and Marie |
6 | | Curtin in Taylorville on January 21, 1929; she grew up on their |
7 | | farm in Blue Mound and attended Stonington Community High |
8 | | School before graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in |
9 | | Springfield; she graduated from the University of Illinois with |
10 | | a bachelor's degree in education in 1949; while at the |
11 | | university, she met Robert Francis Tracy, and they were married |
12 | | in Stonington on June 9, 1949; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, In 1960, the Tracys started their business, |
14 | | Associated Dairy Products Company; though Dorothy often worked |
15 | | as a substitute teacher at St. Mary School and Brown County |
16 | | High School in Mt. Sterling, she also assisted Robert in |
17 | | running the new company, functioning as secretary and |
18 | | bookkeeper and even helping make deliveries of food products to |
19 | | their customers; in honor of Dorothy, Associated Dairy Products |
20 | | Company changed its name to Dot Associated Dairy Products |
21 | | Company in 1966 before being renamed Dot Foods in 1981; today, |
22 | | the $8.1 billion company is the largest food industry |
23 | | redistributor in North America and is still owned and operated |

1 | | by the Tracy family; Dot Foods employs 6,400 people in 16 |
2 | | locations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, including |
3 | | 2,800 at its Mt. Sterling corporate headquarters; and
|
4 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Tracy was active in the Holy Family |
5 | | Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling, where she often played the |
6 | | organ; she was also a member of the National T.T.T. Society |
7 | | chapter in Mt. Sterling, served on the Brown County School |
8 | | Board, and played bridge in several local clubs; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy had a philanthropic spirit and |
10 | | volunteered and supported many local charities; she is known |
11 | | for her role in helping build the Mt. Sterling Community Center |
12 | | YMCA, which opened in 2004; construction of the facility was |
13 | | paid for by Robert and Dorothy Tracy, the Tracy Family |
14 | | Foundation, and Dot Foods; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy Tracy was preceded in death by her |
16 | | husband, Robert; her parents; her sister, Catherine Trueblood; |
17 | | and her brothers, Bill Curtin and Leo Curtin; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Dorothy is survived by her 12 children, Donald |
19 | | (Wanda), Patrick (Jane), Thomas (Catherine), Anne (Ray) |
20 | | Capestrain, James (Jil), Jean (Mike) Buckley, John (Linda), |
21 | | Mary (Jay) Sullivan, Susan (Scott) Stamerjohn, Jane (Fred) |
22 | | Schmidt, Joseph (Jill), and Richard (Adina); 46 grandchildren; |

1 | | 31 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Paul (Gail) Curtin, |
2 | | Larry Curtin, and John (Alice) Curtin; and her sister-in-law, |
3 | | Nancy Curtin; therefore, be it

4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
|
6 | | Dorothy Agnes Tracy and extend our sincere
condolences to her |
7 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved
her; and be it |
8 | | further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
|
10 | | presented to the family of Dorothy Tracy as an expression of

11 | | our deepest sympathy.
