SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dorothy Agnes Tracy of Mt. Sterling, who
4passed away on March 27, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dorothy Tracy was born to Lawrence and Marie
6Curtin in Taylorville on January 21, 1929; she grew up on their
7farm in Blue Mound and attended Stonington Community High
8School before graduating from Sacred Heart Academy in
9Springfield; she graduated from the University of Illinois with
10a bachelor's degree in education in 1949; while at the
11university, she met Robert Francis Tracy, and they were married
12in Stonington on June 9, 1949; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In 1960, the Tracys started their business,
14Associated Dairy Products Company; though Dorothy often worked
15as a substitute teacher at St. Mary School and Brown County
16High School in Mt. Sterling, she also assisted Robert in
17running the new company, functioning as secretary and
18bookkeeper and even helping make deliveries of food products to
19their customers; in honor of Dorothy, Associated Dairy Products
20Company changed its name to Dot Associated Dairy Products
21Company in 1966 before being renamed Dot Foods in 1981; today,
22the $8.1 billion company is the largest food industry
23redistributor in North America and is still owned and operated

1by the Tracy family; Dot Foods employs 6,400 people in 16
2locations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, including
32,800 at its Mt. Sterling corporate headquarters; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dorothy Tracy was active in the Holy Family
5Catholic Church in Mt. Sterling, where she often played the
6organ; she was also a member of the National T.T.T. Society
7chapter in Mt. Sterling, served on the Brown County School
8Board, and played bridge in several local clubs; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dorothy had a philanthropic spirit and
10volunteered and supported many local charities; she is known
11for her role in helping build the Mt. Sterling Community Center
12YMCA, which opened in 2004; construction of the facility was
13paid for by Robert and Dorothy Tracy, the Tracy Family
14Foundation, and Dot Foods; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Dorothy Tracy was preceded in death by her
16husband, Robert; her parents; her sister, Catherine Trueblood;
17and her brothers, Bill Curtin and Leo Curtin; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Dorothy is survived by her 12 children, Donald
19(Wanda), Patrick (Jane), Thomas (Catherine), Anne (Ray)
20Capestrain, James (Jil), Jean (Mike) Buckley, John (Linda),
21Mary (Jay) Sullivan, Susan (Scott) Stamerjohn, Jane (Fred)
22Schmidt, Joseph (Jill), and Richard (Adina); 46 grandchildren;

131 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Paul (Gail) Curtin,
2Larry Curtin, and John (Alice) Curtin; and her sister-in-law,
3Nancy Curtin; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
6Dorothy Agnes Tracy and extend our sincere condolences to her
7family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
8further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to the family of Dorothy Tracy as an expression of
11our deepest sympathy.
