SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Rosemarie Schliesske of Oak Park, who passed away on October 13, 2019 at the age of 81; and

WHEREAS, Rosemarie Schliesske was born in Wuppertal, Germany to Adele and Max Jung on March 29, 1938; she was the youngest of four daughters and was affectionately known as "Rosi"; she attended grade school in Germany during World War II and trade school after the war; when she was 19, she immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; she married Horst Schliesske; they moved to Chicago before settling in Oak Park, where they raised their three children and her niece Aliza and fostered two children, Lisa and David; and

WHEREAS, Rosemarie Schliesske worked at many clerical and administrative jobs to help support her family until she became the office manager for Genesis Management in Oak Park; alongside her husband, she later became a small business owner, building a property management company; and

WHEREAS, Rosemarie Schliesske was committed to her faith and was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church and then Calvary Memorial Church; she later attended Willow Creek Community Church; and

WHEREAS, Rosemarie Schliesske was known as a selfless and generous person; together with her husband, she opened her home to children who could not live with their own families; she also provided financial support through World Vision to children who were restricted by poverty; and

WHEREAS, Rosemarie Schliesske had many different hobbies and was an avid crafter; she began breeding Coton de Tulears after her last child left home; she enjoyed attending her weekly Sunday morning church services, receiving visits from her children and grandchildren, and making her annual road trip to Florida with her husband; and

WHEREAS, Rosemarie Schliesske was preceded in death by her sisters, Lotte Halbach and Marlis Dahiem; and

WHEREAS, Rosemarie Schliesske is survived by her husband of 54 years, Horst Schliesske; her children, Heidemarie, Andrew, and Judith (David) Schliesske Waters; her grandchildren, Armando, Ryan, Declan, and Grayson; her sister, Sigrid Robinson; her niece, Aliza Hutchinson; and many other nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Rosemarie Schliesske and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Rosemarie Schliesske as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
