|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Dr. Chafick "Chad" Nicholas Mansour on |
4 | | June 15, 2019 at the age of 94; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts on |
6 | | January 19, 1925; he served in the U.S. Navy during World War |
7 | | II as a Pharmacist's Mate First Class; during the invasion of |
8 | | Omaha Beach, his landing ship
tanker hit a mine; he was one of |
9 | | only a handful of
survivors and was awarded the Purple Heart; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour earned his undergraduate degree at |
12 | | Northwestern University and graduated from Northwestern |
13 | | University Medical School in 1950; he completed his medical |
14 | | internship at Cook County Hospital and completed his residency |
15 | | in general surgery at the Hines, Illinois V.A.
Hospital; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was one of the founding members of the |
17 | | medical staff at Gottlieb
Hospital, where he served as |
18 | | president and chairman of the Department of Surgery; he also |
19 | | served as
chief of surgery at Westlake Hospital and was a |
20 | | professor of surgery at the University of Illinois Medical |
21 | | School; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour donated his time as a surgeon to |
2 | | Shriners Hospital for Children; he also had a longtime practice |
3 | | at Elmwood Park Medical Center, where he was beloved by his |
4 | | patients; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was a fellow at the American College |
6 | | of Surgeons and was a member of the Chicago Medical Society, |
7 | | the Illinois State Medical Society, the American Medical
|
8 | | Association, and the Hellenic Medical Society; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was a longtime resident of Oak Park |
10 | | and was a member and benefactor of
Assumption Greek Orthodox |
11 | | Church; his happiest times were summers with his family in |
12 | | Salisbury Beach, Massachusetts; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour was preceded in death by his loving |
14 | | wife of 64 years, Fotini; his
siblings, James, George, Helen, |
15 | | Louis, and Alice; and his sister-in-law, Helen (the late Duke) |
16 | | Gankas; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Mansour is survived by his sister, Lorice (the |
18 | | late Bill) Sullivan; his brother, Raymond (Vincenza) Mansour; |
19 | | his children, Maria (the late Christ) Kamberos, Melina Mansour, |
20 | | and Nicholas (Dina) Mansour; his grandchildren, Brittany (Joe) |
21 | | Cavallaro, Christ Jr. (Alexandra Haake) Kamberos, Lukas |
22 | | Mansour, Ashley Donegan, and Xenia Mansour; his |

1 | | great-grandchildren, Joey Cavallaro and Gabriel Nicholas |
2 | | Kamberos; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing |
5 | | Dr. Chafick "Chad" Mansour, and extend our sincere condolences |
6 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
7 | | it further

8 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
|
9 | | presented to the family of Dr. Mansour as an expression of
our |
10 | | deepest sympathy.
