2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of John M. "Jack" Ryan, who passed away on |
4 | | October 15, 2019 at the age of 92; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Jack Ryan was born to Irish immigrants in Chicago; |
6 | | his parents passed away when he was seven, and he was raised by |
7 | | an aunt and uncle; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Jack Ryan attended DePaul University on the GI |
9 | | Bill after his service in the U.S. Army at the end of World War |
10 | | II; he furthered his education and earned a Master of Business |
11 | | Administration from the University of Chicago; and |
12 | | WHEREAS, Jack Ryan began his career in advertising working |
13 | | for Tatham-Laird & Kudner and J. Walter Thompson; he then |
14 | | established his own marketing company; when he retired, he |
15 | | taught at Dominican University; and |
16 | | WHEREAS, Jack Ryan was devoted to reading and music; he |
17 | | loved Irish literature and folk music; he played guitar and |
18 | | would often sing folk songs for his children and their friends; |
19 | | and |
20 | | WHEREAS, Jack Ryan worked on political campaigns and was an |

1 | | active member of the community; he was involved in adult |
2 | | education and community masses at Ascension and St. Giles |
3 | | parishes; and |
4 | | WHEREAS, Jack Ryan was a longtime resident of Oak Park; he |
5 | | was the former president of the Oak Park Village Manager |
6 | | Association; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Jack Ryan was married to Joan for 64 years; he was |
8 | | described as gentle and sympathetic and as someone who always |
9 | | provided stimulating company; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Jack Ryan was preceded in death by his brother, |
11 | | Joseph Ryan, and his sisters, Mary Ryan and Adelaide Leyden; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Jack Ryan is survived by wife, Joan; his children, |
14 | | David (Theresa) Ryan, Sara (Malcolm) Warner, Patty (Brian) |
15 | | Faut, and Molly (Peter) Quinn; his grandchildren, Joseph |
16 | | (Courtney), Courtney, John and Maeve Ryan, Madeline and Charlie |
17 | | Warner, Conor, Gillian, and Ryan Faut, and Natalie and Benjamin |
18 | | Quinn; therefore, be it
