SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dwain "Chris" Christofferson of Moline, who passed away on May 19, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Chris Christofferson was born to Oscar and Bernice (Swanson) Christofferson in Moline on October 23, 1924; he graduated from Moline High School and attended the University of Illinois Extension Center; he served in the U.S. Army in WWII where he was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge; Chris married Irene Hoegner in May of 1949; and

WHEREAS, Chris Christofferson was a supervisor in the Production Control, Product Engineering, and Personnel Departments at Deere Plow-Planter Works; he was then president and treasurer of the Deere & Co. Credit Union; he served on the Governor's Advisory Board for Credit Unions, was president of the Council of Credit Union Executives Society, and served as the first elected president of the merged Plow & Planter Credit Unions; he also worked for the Volunteer Firemen's Insurance Company from which he received an Eagle Award as well as many other awards for outstanding salesmanship and service; following his retirement, he worked as a consultant for John Deere Harvester Credit Union; and

WHEREAS, Chris Christofferson was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Island; he was a Charter Member of the Moline Second Alarmers, founded in 1952, and remained a member for 40 years; he was also a member of the Moline Rotary Club, the Upper Rock Island County Chamber of Commerce, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, and the Military Order of the Purple Heart; he also served as the original chairman of Moline Riverfest from 1983 to 1986; and

WHEREAS, Chris Christofferson was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Virginia Kirk; and

WHEREAS, Chris Christofferson is survived by his wife, Irene; his children, Susan Christofferson, Nancy (Mark) Herman, and Paul (Kathy) Christofferson; his grandchildren, Lauren (Tim) Corwin, Haley Walker, and Christopher Christofferson; his nephews, Randy and Chris Kirk; and his brother-in-law, George Kirk; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dwain "Chris" Christofferson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Chris Christofferson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
