|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Vernon L. Laurin of Rock Island, who |
4 | | passed away on May 18, 2020; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was born to Edna and Leo Laurin in |
6 | | Marinette, Wisconsin on December 21, 1919; during World War II, |
7 | | he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Lake Champlain Carrier in |
8 | | Engine Maintenance; after his service, he entered Marquette |
9 | | University and graduated in 1949 with a degree in mechanical |
10 | | engineering; Vernon married Ruth Caspari on December 9, 1942, |
11 | | and she passed away in 1966; he married Rita Kitt on May 5, |
12 | | 1973; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was employed by Barber Colman |
14 | | Company and became an Independent Representative for them with |
15 | | his own firm, Quint Co.; he retired in 1986 after 32 years of |
16 | | service; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was a 25 year member of the Kiwanis |
18 | | Club of Rock Island and a 50 year member of the American |
19 | | Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning |
20 | | Engineers, Inc.; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was an avid golfer who had four |

1 | | holes-in-one and was a lifetime member of Oakwood Country Club; |
2 | | he played in numerous opens held at the club and served on the |
3 | | Board of Directors in charge of House and Grounds for many |
4 | | years; he also enjoyed working out and reading Westerns; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was preceded in death by his |
6 | | parents; his first wife, Ruth; his aunt, Irene Sauve; and his |
7 | | grandson, Matthew Myers; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin is survived by his wife, Rita; his |
9 | | daughters, Annette Terronez, Corene Laurin, Georgene Myers, |
10 | | Jeanette Orr (Jeff), Suzanne Sharp (Ray), and Kerry Laurin |
11 | | (Kelly O'Reilly); his son, Gary Laurin; his numerous |
12 | | grandchildren; his several great-grandchildren; and one |
13 | | great-great-grandchild; therefore, be it
|
14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
|
16 | | Vernon L. Laurin and extend our sincere
condolences to his |
17 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it |

19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
