SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Vernon L. Laurin of Rock Island, who
4passed away on May 18, 2020; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was born to Edna and Leo Laurin in
6Marinette, Wisconsin on December 21, 1919; during World War II,
7he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Lake Champlain Carrier in
8Engine Maintenance; after his service, he entered Marquette
9University and graduated in 1949 with a degree in mechanical
10engineering; Vernon married Ruth Caspari on December 9, 1942,
11and she passed away in 1966; he married Rita Kitt on May 5,
121973; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was employed by Barber Colman
14Company and became an Independent Representative for them with
15his own firm, Quint Co.; he retired in 1986 after 32 years of
16service; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was a 25 year member of the Kiwanis
18Club of Rock Island and a 50 year member of the American
19Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning
20Engineers, Inc.; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was an avid golfer who had four

1holes-in-one and was a lifetime member of Oakwood Country Club;
2he played in numerous opens held at the club and served on the
3Board of Directors in charge of House and Grounds for many
4years; he also enjoyed working out and reading Westerns; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin was preceded in death by his
6parents; his first wife, Ruth; his aunt, Irene Sauve; and his
7grandson, Matthew Myers; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Vernon Laurin is survived by his wife, Rita; his
9daughters, Annette Terronez, Corene Laurin, Georgene Myers,
10Jeanette Orr (Jeff), Suzanne Sharp (Ray), and Kerry Laurin
11(Kelly O'Reilly); his son, Gary Laurin; his numerous
12grandchildren; his several great-grandchildren; and one
13great-great-grandchild; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Vernon L. Laurin and extend our sincere condolences to his
17family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Vernon Laurin as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
