SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Frederick "Fred" Richard Mason of Port Byron, who passed away on June 17, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Fred Mason was born to Fred T. and Ruby (Hadley) Mason on December 20, 1929; he graduated from Atkinson High School and then attended Illinois Bankers School in Carbondale; he married Lillian White in Kewanee on October 14, 1951; Fred served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, working as a medic during the Korean War; he was also in the US Army Reserve, retiring in 1977; and

WHEREAS, Fred Mason farmed in the Atkinson area for 12 years and Leland for two years; he also worked for the Leland National Bank from 1967 to 1974 and then served as president of the Sugar Grove Bank from 1975 to 1995; and

WHEREAS, For over 50 years, Fred Mason was a member of the American Legion in Sugar Grove and Port Byron; he was also a member of the Lions Club; he was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend; and

WHEREAS, Fred Mason was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian Mason; his son, Darrell Mason; his brother, Donald Mason; and his sister, June Mason; and

WHEREAS, Fred Mason is survived by his children, Kathleen (Carl) Burney, Kenneth (Sandra) Mason, Dennis Mason, and Kim (Dewinn) Hume; his grandchildren, Tony Gaskin, Terri Just, Brooke Grzanich, Ryan, Joshua, and Brandon Mason, Bridgette Russell, Brittany Stalling, and Dustin, Jenna, and Logan Hume; and his 16 great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Frederick Richard Mason and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Fred Mason as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
