| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
| 3 | | learn of the death of James B. "Jim" McWethy of Downers Grove, |
| 4 | | who passed away on June 22, 2020; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Jim McWethy was born on Chicago's South Side to |
| 6 | | James D. McWethy and Muriel (Berry) McWethy on September 15, |
| 7 | | 1943; he was raised in Beverly and Palos Heights; he graduated |
| 8 | | from Cornell College in 1965; he earned his master's degree in |
| 9 | | Economics from Indiana University; he married Susan Wasilkoff; |
| 10 | | and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Jim McWethy became a professor of Economics at |
| 12 | | Indiana University; he later returned to the Chicago area and |
| 13 | | began his professional career; he worked at the First National |
| 14 | | Bank of Chicago; he then dedicated many years to the Berry |
| 15 | | Bearing Company, which was founded by his entrepreneur |
| 16 | | grandfather, Les Berry; after retiring from Berry Bearing, he |
| 17 | | became the owner and operator of the Mistwood Golf Club, |
| 18 | | McWethy's Tavern, and the Mistwood Golf Dome, along with |
| 19 | | numerous other business ventures; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Jim McWethy's love and pride for the Mistwood Golf |
| 21 | | Club and the game of golf were only surpassed by his immense |
| 22 | | love and dedication to his family; he was known for being kind, |
