|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Luceille Marie (Gleim) Werner of the Long |
4 | | Point and Streator area, who passed away on July 6, 2020; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Luceille Werner was born to Louis and Ina Gleim of |
6 | | rural Grand Ridge on October 26, 1925; she married Vincent |
7 | | Arthur Werner at the Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church |
8 | | in Streator on October 26, 1946; she earned her M.S. in |
9 | | Supervision and Administration from Illinois State University; |
10 | | and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Luceille Werner was an educator whose career |
12 | | spanned nearly six decades; she began as a teacher in a one |
13 | | room school house from 1944 to 1954; she was a fourth grade |
14 | | teacher at Long Point Grade School from 1955 to 1959; she |
15 | | served as the supervisor for Woodland, Long Point, and Wilson |
16 | | Elementary Schools from 1959 to 1966; next, she was the |
17 | | curriculum consultant for the Illinois North-Central Region; |
18 | | she then served as the director of the U.S. Department of |
19 | | Education's program On the Way to Success in Reading and |
20 | | Writing, which was implemented in 7,000 school districts across |
21 | | the nation from 1970 to 2002; she also helped expand the family |
22 | | farm operation; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Luceille Werner traveled the nation and the world |
2 | | as an ambassador for excellence in education; she received |
3 | | numerous awards and accolades for her service towards improving |
4 | | education, including being recognized on the floor of the |
5 | | Illinois Senate by Senator Jason Barickman and by proclamation |
6 | | from then-Governor Bruce Rauner in 2016; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Luceille Werner was a member of several |
8 | | organizations, including P.E.O., the Athena Club, and the Lindy |
9 | | Club; she was a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist |
10 | | Church and taught Sunday school for 25 years; she served as |
11 | | president of the LaSalle County Historical Society twice and |
12 | | co-founded the LaSalle County Historical Society's Aitken One |
13 | | Room Schoolhouse program; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Luceille Werner was preceded in death by her |
15 | | husband of 64 years, Vincent Arthur Werner; her parents; her |
16 | | daughter-in-law, Ann (Phillip); and her grandson, David; and
|
17 | | WHEREAS, Luceille Werner is survived by her sons, Phillip |
18 | | (the late Ann) and John (Joyce); her grandchildren, Deborah, |
19 | | Robert, Kristina, Jason (Laurie), Jeff (Elizabeth), and Joel |
20 | | (Kristin); her great-grandchildren, Jacob Jonathan, Claire |
21 | | Grace, Isla Elizabeth, Malachi Jeremiah, Vienna Elizabeth, and |
22 | | Gavin James; her sister, Mary (Davis) Small; and her several |
23 | | nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

1 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
2 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
3 | | Luceille Marie (Gleim) Werner and extend our sincere |
4 | | condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved |
5 | | her; and be it further

6 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
7 | | presented to the family of Luceille Werner as an expression of |
8 | | our deepest sympathy.
