|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Glen Albert Brandt of Pleasant Plains, |
4 | | who passed away on June 7, 2020; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Glen Brandt was born to Albert and Margaret Bomke |
6 | | Brandt in Farmingdale on March 19, 1926; he was confirmed into |
7 | | the Lutheran Church at Immanuel Lutheran Church on August 13, |
8 | | 1939; he graduated from Pleasant Plains High School in 1944 and |
9 | | briefly attended Springfield Junior College before enlisting |
10 | | in the U.S. Merchant Marines; he served for three years during |
11 | | WWII; he returned home to farm with his father but was drafted |
12 | | into the U.S. Army in 1950 to serve in Korea; after two years |
13 | | with the 27th Regiment of the 25th Division, he was honorably |
14 | | discharged; he married Peggy Eileen Carter on September 5, |
15 | | 1960; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, In 1953, Glen Brandt and his sister, Evelyn, |
17 | | founded the business that would grow to become Brandt, Inc.; he |
18 | | remained active in the agriculture business that bears his name |
19 | | until his passing, serving as a vocal consultant to the board |
20 | | of directors; and
|
21 | | WHEREAS, Glen Brandt previously served as the president of |
22 | | what is now known as the Ag Retailers Association; he was |
|

1 | | involved in the community as a member of the Pleasant Plains |
2 | | American Legion, a patron of the Memorial Medical Center |
3 | | Foundation, and as a member of the development committee for |
4 | | Lincoln Land Community College; he was a member of Zion |
5 | | Lutheran Church in Pleasant Plains; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, The Ag Retailers Association named Brandt, Inc. |
7 | | the Ag Retailer of the Year in 2000 and also presented Glen |
8 | | Brandt its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007; |
9 | | Glen, along with Evelyn, were named the Illinois State Ag |
10 | | Ambassadors in 2015; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, in his youth, Glen Brandt was a founding member of |
12 | | the band Boogie Woogie Brandt and the Barrelhouse Boys; more |
13 | | recently, he enjoyed socializing, talking business over |
14 | | cocktails, smoking a stogie, and taking walks on Bonita Beach; |
15 | | he was also a licensed pilot; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Glen Brandt was preceded in death by his parents |
17 | | and his wife; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Glen Brandt is survived by his sisters, Evelyn |
19 | | Brandt Thomas and Shirley Brandt Hagen; his son, Rick (Kristie) |
20 | | Brandt; his daughter, Terri (Tom) Gustafson; his four beloved |
21 | | grandchildren, Sierra-Shae Brandt and Alex, Will, and Joe |
22 | | Gustafson; his niece; his nephew; his many cousins; and his |
