SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Murel Peterson of Moline, who passed away on July 30, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Murel Peterson was born in Pine, Missouri to Ray and Virgie (Lewis) Peterson on September 26, 1928; he married Dorothy Marie Ferguson in Rock Island on February 17, 1953, and she preceded him in death on August 7, 1998; he joined the U.S. Army on October 12, 1953, and he served in Korea; he joined the U.S. National Guard in August of 1954, and he earned the rank of Sergeant 1st Class before retiring in 1972; he married Dorothy Jean Martin on September 23, 2000, and she preceded him in death on June 10, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Murel Peterson began working at John Deere Plow Planter on December 17, 1947; he retired on September 30, 1987; and

WHEREAS, Murel Peterson was committed to his faith and was a member of the Victory Baptist Church in East Moline for over 40 years; he was known for doing everything he could to attend family sporting events; he will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather; and

WHEREAS, Murel Peterson was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; his sisters, Dorene Peterson and Nora Peterson; and his brother, Doris Peterson; and

WHEREAS, Murel Peterson is survived by his children, Donna Peterson (Connie McCumsey) and M. Keith (Angie) Peterson; his grandchildren, Kyle Peterson, Holly Peterson, and Zachary Peterson; and his sister, Irene Peterson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Murel Peterson and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Murel Peterson as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
