2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | ||||||
3 | learn of the death of Joseph S. Forzley of Lemont, who passed | ||||||
4 | away on August 25, 2020; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was born to Salim and Fedwa Forzley | ||||||
6 | in Lemont on July 10, 1927; he graduated from Lemont Township | ||||||
7 | High School in 1945; he then served in the 5th Army Air Force | ||||||
8 | in World War Two; after serving his country, he received his | ||||||
9 | degree from UCLA; he married Bernice Elias at the All Saints | ||||||
10 | Greek Orthodox Church in 1950; he was a lifelong resident of | ||||||
11 | Lemont; and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley worked in the insurance business | ||||||
13 | for eight years; he then worked for Argonne National Laboratory | ||||||
14 | as a purchasing manager for 30 years; he also served as mayor | ||||||
15 | of Lemont from 1989 to 1992; and
| ||||||
16 | WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was a founding member of the Wilco | ||||||
17 | Career Center and what is now known as The Blue & Gold Backers, | ||||||
18 | a parent-driven volunteer organization that supports the | ||||||
19 | Lemont High School Athletic Department through fundraising | ||||||
20 | activities; he served as a board member of the All Saints Greek | ||||||
21 | Orthodox Church and of the Franciscan Sisters, as president of | ||||||
22 | the Lemont High School Board, on the Lemont Planning and Zoning |

1 | Commission, and on the Lemont Village Board; he also coached | ||||||
2 | Little League; and
| ||||||
3 | WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was a Scottish Rite Masonic member | ||||||
4 | as well as a member of the Lockport Masonic Lodge #538 and | ||||||
5 | Shriners; a proud veteran, he was an Honor Flight recipient and | ||||||
6 | a member of the VFW and American Legion; and
| ||||||
7 | WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was a Lemont High School Hall of | ||||||
8 | Fame recipient; he was also chosen as Lemont's Grand Marshal | ||||||
9 | for the Keepataw Parade and as Citizen of the Year; in | ||||||
10 | addition, a bridge at the Lemont quarries was named after him; | ||||||
11 | and
| ||||||
12 | WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley enjoyed vacationing in Florida, | ||||||
13 | all sports, and, most of all, spending time with his family; | ||||||
14 | and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley was preceded in death by his | ||||||
16 | parents; his two brothers, Edward and Richard Forzley; his | ||||||
17 | brother-in-law, Elias Abboud; and his mother-in-law and | ||||||
18 | father-in-law, Asma and Essa Elias; and
| ||||||
19 | WHEREAS, Joseph Forzley is survived by his loving and | ||||||
20 | devoted wife of 70 years, Bernice (Elias) Forzley; his three | ||||||
21 | children, Sharon (Ted) Mochel, Mark (Kathy) Forzley, and Dr. |

1 | Samuel (Michele) Forzley; his seven grandchildren, Matthew | ||||||
2 | (Christina), Michele, and Michael Forzley, Sarah (Graham) | ||||||
3 | Pocic, and Nicholas, Anne, and Elizabeth Forzley; his three | ||||||
4 | great-grandchildren, Grace and Jack Pocic and Hannah Forzley; | ||||||
5 | his sister, Gloria Abboud; his sister-in-law, Joan Forzley; and | ||||||
6 | his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
| ||||||
7 | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL | ||||||
8 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
| ||||||
9 | Joseph S. Forzley and extend our sincere
condolences to his | ||||||
10 | family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be it | ||||||
11 | further
| ||||||
12 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
13 | presented to the family of Joseph Forzley as an expression of
| ||||||
14 | our deepest sympathy.
