|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Leland Gene "Lee" Zimmerman of Eureka, |
4 | | who passed away on October 17, 2020; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Lee Zimmerman was born in Eureka to Lawrence and |
6 | | Lena (Leman) Zimmerman on December 18, 1933; he served in the |
7 | | U.S. military during the Korean War; he married Laurene |
8 | | Schambach in Elgin on June 14, 1959, and she preceded him in |
9 | | death on December 30, 1999; he married Barbara Ringger in |
10 | | Eureka on March 10, 2002; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Following the retirement of their parents, Lee |
12 | | Zimmerman and his sister, Caroll, owned and operated the C & L |
13 | | Superette; after closing the family grocery business in 1977, |
14 | | he worked at Ben Schwartz IGA and Eureka IGA, retiring in 1998; |
15 | | he also founded and operated The Ice House, which made and |
16 | | distributed ice to local businesses; he founded and operated |
17 | | Lee's Metals, which provided the local community a place to |
18 | | bring in various metals and other recyclable goods; his love of |
19 | | people and serving others led him to working for the Morton |
20 | | Community Bank in his retirement, where he provided courier |
21 | | services and could share his smile and bring a smile to |
22 | | everyone's face; and

1 | | WHEREAS, Lee Zimmerman was affectionately known as |
2 | | "Gramps" by his grandchildren; he was an engaging story teller; |
3 | | he was a member of the Eureka Apostolic Christian Church, where |
4 | | he was baptized on January 18, 1953; he served many years as a |
5 | | Sunday school teacher, song leader, and trustee; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Lee Zimmerman was preceded in death by his first |
7 | | wife, Laurene; his parents; his infant sister, Twila Zimmerman; |
8 | | his sister, Caroll Zobrist; his son-in-law, Fred Leman; and his |
9 | | grandsons, Gabriel Leman and Samson Zimmerman; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Lee Zimmerman is survived by his wife, Barbara; |
11 | | his children, Mark (Cheryl) Zimmerman, Denise (Kevin) Kilgus, |
12 | | Brenda (Jay) Hartman, Michael (Gretchen) Zimmerman, and |
13 | | Matthew (Sara) Zimmerman; 25 grandchildren; and 34 |
14 | | great-grandchildren; therefore, be it

15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
17 | | Leland Gene "Lee" Zimmerman and extend our sincere condolences |
18 | | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be |
19 | | it further

20 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
21 | | presented to the family of Lee Zimmerman as an expression of |
22 | | our deepest sympathy.
