|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of former Illinois State Senator and |
4 | | Carlinville Mayor Deanna Demuzio, who passed away on October |
5 | | 20, 2020; and
|
6 | | WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio was born in St. Louis, Missouri to |
7 | | John and Virginia (Fuess) Clemonds on February 23, 1943; she |
8 | | was raised on her family farm in Gillespie; she graduated from |
9 | | Gillespie High School in 1961; she married Vince Demuzio on |
10 | | June 28, 1962, and he preceded her in death on April 27, 2004; |
11 | | she attended the Patricia Stevens Modeling School in St. Louis; |
12 | | and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio operated her own bridal shop called |
14 | | The Inside Story, where she helped make the wedding dreams of |
15 | | brides come true; finding her niche in serving others, she went |
16 | | to work as a curriculum specialist at Lewis and Clark Community |
17 | | College; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio was appointed to serve as the |
19 | | Illinois State Senator for the 49th District upon the passing |
20 | | of her husband in 2004; she was elected to her first term in |
21 | | November 2004; during her tenure, she focused on issues close |
22 | | to her heart and was proud of her contributions to education |

1 | | and healthcare; she was dedicated to improving education and |
2 | | developing education policy in Illinois; she championed |
3 | | mentoring programs for principals and preschool education; she |
4 | | created sufficient funding for local schools; she made it a |
5 | | priority to bring better healthcare opportunities to rural and |
6 | | under-serviced areas of the State; she received many awards and |
7 | | accolades in recognition of her work through the years; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio ran for mayor of Carlinville in May |
9 | | 2013 and was elected; while acting as mayor, she served as a |
10 | | board trustee for Blackburn College and as a member of the |
11 | | Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board, the Illinois |
12 | | Community Care Connection, the Carlinville Chamber of |
13 | | Commerce, the Carlinville Christmas Market, and the Municipal |
14 | | League's Legislative Committee; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio will be remembered for her |
16 | | dedication to and love for her family, friends, faith, and |
17 | | community; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio was preceded in death by her |
19 | | husband; her son, Bradley Demuzio; her parents; and her |
20 | | sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bernadette and David |
21 | | Hasquin; and
|
22 | | WHEREAS, Deanna Demuzio is survived by her daughter, |

1 | | Stephanie (Patrick) Blair; her grandchildren, Blake (Mallory) |
2 | | Demuzio, Brooke (Michael) Davis, Tristan Blair, and Gillian |
3 | | Blair; her great-grandchildren, Cal Demuzio, Olivia Davis, and |
4 | | Reagan Davis; her sisters-in-law, Marlene Demuzio, Catherine |
5 | | (Pete) Visintin, and Donna (Jim) Burke; and her aunt, Jackie |
6 | | Klaus; therefore, be it

7 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL |
8 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of |
9 | | former Illinois State Senator and Carlinville Mayor Deanna |
10 | | Demuzio and extend our sincere condolences to her family, |
11 | | friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further
|
12 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
13 | | presented to the family of Deanna Demuzio as an expression of |
14 | | our deepest sympathy.
