SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of James "Jim" E. Stack Jr. of Collinsville, who passed away on December 24, 2020; and

WHEREAS, Jim Stack was born to James E. Stack Sr. and Wilma Rose (Grob) Stack in Granite City on July 20, 1947; he graduated from Granite City High School in 1965; he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War; as a member of the Construction Battalion, he served 18 months in Da Nang Vietnam; he first served as a member of Naval Intelligence but mainly worked as a truck master for the Port of Da Nang; he was awarded the Navy Defense Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, and three commendations for breaking the record of materials shipped in one day and breaking that record twice more; he married Karen (Griffith) Stack in Edwardsville on November 27, 1985; and

WHEREAS, Jim Stack first worked at McDonnell Douglas before joining the service; he then worked as a Rate Setter for the former General Steel Company, and he served as the Assistant Superintendent of Streets in Granite City; he had also owned and operated Stackorp, Inc./St. Louis Lead Recycling and Stack Environmental Consulting; later, he also co-owned and operated REDCO Marine and Stackers Restaurant; he retired in December 2013 from the Illinois Department of Transportation after 11 years of dedicated service as the Urban Planning Unit Chief; and

WHEREAS, Jim Stack was involved in his community throughout the years, serving on various boards and volunteering for many organizations; most recently, he was serving on the Collinsville Township Board of Trustees and as a Madison County Deputy Coroner; he had served as Madison County Democratic Party Chairman from June of 2012 until April of 2014; he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Jesters and a lifetime members of AMVETS Post #204 in Madison; he was a member of the Ainad Shrine in East St. Louis and the Troy/Edwardsville Shrine Club and served on the Shriner's Honorary Guard and the director's staff; he was also a former Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus in Granite City; and

WHEREAS, Jim Stack enjoyed boating and fishing; he had many friends and was considered to be the life of the party; he knew how to have fun, cherished his grandchildren, and had an amazing array of accomplishments; and

WHEREAS, Jim Stack was preceded in death by his parents and his aunt, Eleanor Buente; and

WHEREAS, Jim Stack is survived by his wife of 35 years; his two stepchildren, Paul (Gigi) DeLuca and Laura DeLuca (Joe Pavlovec); his four grandchildren, Nigel DeLuca (Allison Kelly), Killian DeLuca, Aaron Stadts (Emily Otten), and Adam Stadts (Kylee Patterson); his six brothers, Daniel (Dil) Stack, Raymond Stack, Michael (Joann) Stack, Bradley (Patti) Stack, Anthony (Robin) Stack, and Stephen Stack; his two sisters, Kathleen (Dave) Cerny and Anna Marie "Amy" Stack; his sister-in-law, Kaye (Richard) Wilson; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of James "Jim" E. Stack Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jim Stack as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
