Amends the School Code. Provides that, beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, each school district must provide a parent or guardian of an at-risk student information about appropriate and available community-based or in-school academic support services; defines "at-risk student" and specifies what those services may include. Provides that a school district shall not be responsible for any costs or transportation associated with a student's participation in community-based academic support services. Effective July 1, 2022.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections |
| 5 | | 10-20.73 and 34-18.67 as follows: |
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 5/10-20.73 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 10-20.73. Academic support services; at-risk student. |
| 8 | | (a) In this Section, "at-risk student" means a student who |
| 9 | | is at risk of dropping out of school because of his or her |
| 10 | | individual academic needs and who requires temporary or |
| 11 | | ongoing academic support services to achieve success in |
| 12 | | school. |
| 13 | | (b) Beginning with the 2022-2023 school year, each school |
| 14 | | district must provide a parent or guardian of an at-risk |
| 15 | | student information about appropriate and available |
| 16 | | community-based or in-school academic support services. The |
| 17 | | academic support services may include, but are not limited to, |
| 18 | | any of the following: |
| 19 | | (1) Individual or small-group tutoring. |
| 20 | | (2) A summer school program. |
| 21 | | (3) A mentoring program. |
| 22 | | (4) Meeting with an academic advisor. |
| 23 | | A school district shall not be responsible for any costs |
