| 1 | | AN ACT concerning government.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, |
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The Statute on Statutes is amended by adding |
| 5 | | Section 1.44 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (5 ILCS 70/1.44 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 1.44. Honorably discharged; veterans benefits. In |
| 8 | | determining the meaning of any statute or rule or |
| 9 | | interpretation by the various administrative agencies of this |
| 10 | | State, for purposes of determining eligibility for any |
| 11 | | veterans benefit available from the State, the words |
| 12 | | "honorable discharge" and "honorably discharged" include a |
| 13 | | discharge under other than honorable conditions or general |
| 14 | | discharge under honorable conditions due to a person's sexual |
| 15 | | orientation or gender identity but does not include a bad |
| 16 | | conduct discharge or a dishonorable discharge.
