| 1 | | AN ACT concerning civil law.
|
| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of |
| 5 | | Marriage Act is amended by adding Section 221 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (750 ILCS 5/221 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 221. Name change on marriage certificate. For a |
| 8 | | person married in any county in this State, the county clerk |
| 9 | | shall issue a new marriage certificate when it receives legal |
| 10 | | documentation indicating that one of the parties listed on the |
| 11 | | certificate has legally changed names. An order for name |
| 12 | | change issued pursuant to Section 21-101 of the Code of Civil |
| 13 | | Procedure shall be the only legal documentation that a county |
| 14 | | clerk may require. The new marriage certificate shall reflect |
| 15 | | the legal name change and shall bear no additional markings.

| 16 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 17 | | becoming law.
