| 1 | | AN ACT concerning local government.

| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section |
| 5 | | 5-1186 as follows: |
| 6 | | (55 ILCS 5/5-1186 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 5-1186. Discontinuance of Capital Township in |
| 8 | | Sangamon County. In addition to any other procedure available |
| 9 | | by law to discontinue a township, upon resolutions of the |
| 10 | | board of trustees of Capital Township in Sangamon County and |
| 11 | | the Sangamon County Board, and after referendum approval by |
| 12 | | the voters of the township and county: (1) Capital Township in |
| 13 | | Sangamon County is discontinued; and (2) all the rights, |
| 14 | | powers, duties, assets, property, liabilities, obligations, |
| 15 | | and responsibilities of the Township are transferred to |
| 16 | | Sangamon County, including, but not limited to, the |
| 17 | | administration of the Capital Township's general assistance |
| 18 | | program. Capital Township and Sangamon County shall follow the |
| 19 | | same procedures that townships and municipalities must follow |
| 20 | | under Article 29 of the Township Code in order to dissolve the |
| 21 | | township and transfer all the rights, powers, duties, assets, |
| 22 | | property, liabilities, obligations, and responsibilities of |
| 23 | | the Township to the County.
