from November 15 through April 1, and only when the snow |

referred to as a "moldboard", is properly |
| 7 | | and securely affixed to the front
of the motor vehicle.

(a) No official or employee of the State, any
|
| 11 | | political subdivision thereof,
any county, municipality, or |
| 12 | | local authority,
and no
owner or employee of any new vehicle |
| 13 | | dealer, used vehicle dealer, or vehicle
auctioneer shall
sell, |
| 14 | | trade or otherwise dispose of any motor
vehicle bearing |
| 15 | | equipment, markings, or other indicia of police
authority |
| 16 | | unless, prior to delivery of the vehicle, the equipment and
|
| 17 | | markings have been sufficiently altered or obliterated to |
| 18 | | remove the
appearance of such authority. A motor vehicle |
| 19 | | subject to this subsection shall have no more than one spot |
| 20 | | lamp installed on the vehicle upon delivery. All spot lamps in |
| 21 | | excess of one shall be removed prior to delivery of the |
| 22 | | vehicle.
|
| 23 | | (b) A person may not operate on the highways of this State |
| 24 | | a vehicle
bearing the equipment, markings, or other indicia of |
| 25 | | police authority, unless

| 1 | | emergency vehicle as defined in Section 1-105 of
this Code.

| 2 | | (c) This Section does not apply to vehicles bearing |
| 3 | | indicia of police
authority that are antique vehicles, as |
| 4 | | defined in Section 1-102.1, and are
registered as antique |
| 5 | | vehicles, as provided in Section 3-804.
|
| 6 | | (c-5) Nothing in this Section shall prohibit a |
| 7 | | manufacturer of authorized emergency vehicle equipment, |
| 8 | | markings, or other indicia, or the manufacturer's |
| 9 | | representative or authorized vendor, from temporarily mounting
|
| 10 | | the equipment, markings, or other indicia on a vehicle for |
| 11 | | demonstration purposes only. If the equipment, markings, or |
| 12 | | other indicia are not covered while the vehicle is operated |
| 13 | | upon a highway, the vehicle shall display signage indicating |
| 14 | | that the vehicle is out of service or not an emergency vehicle. |
| 15 | | The signage shall be displayed on all sides of the vehicle in |
| 16 | | letters at least 2 inches tall and one-half inch wide. |
| 17 | | (d) Any police officer is authorized to seize any vehicle |
| 18 | | that is in
violation of this Section and to impound that |
| 19 | | vehicle, at the owner's expense,
until any equipment, |
| 20 | | markings, or other indicia of police authority have been
|
| 21 | | sufficiently removed, altered, or obliterated to remove the |
| 22 | | appearance of
police
authority.
|
| 23 | | (e) A person convicted of violating this Section is guilty |
| 24 | | of a petty
offense and subject to a fine of not less than $500 |
| 25 | | and not more than $1,000.
