| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,

| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:

| 4 | | Section 5. The School Breakfast and Lunch Program Act is |
| 5 | | amended by adding Section 5.5 as follows:
|
| 6 | | (105 ILCS 125/5.5 new) |
| 7 | | Sec. 5.5. Plant-based school lunch option. As a part of |
| 8 | | the school lunch program, a school district shall provide a |
| 9 | | plant-based school lunch option that complies with federal |
| 10 | | nutritional mandates to those students who submit a prior |
| 11 | | request to the school district requesting a plant-based school |
| 12 | | lunch option.

| 13 | | Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect August |
| 14 | | 1, 2023.
