| 2 | | Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
| 3 | | represented in the General Assembly:
|
| 4 | | Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by |
| 5 | | changing Section 3-682 as follows:
|

| 7 | | Sec. 3-682. Illinois Police Association license plates. |
| 8 | | (a) The Secretary, upon receipt of an application made in |
| 9 | | the form prescribed by the Secretary, may issue special |
| 10 | | registration plates designated as Illinois Police Association |
| 11 | | license plates. The special plates issued under this Section |
| 12 | | shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first |
| 13 | | division and motor vehicles of the second division weighing |
| 14 | | not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued under this Section |
| 15 | | shall expire according to the multi-year procedure established |
| 16 | | by Section 3-414.1 of this Code. |
| 17 | | (b) The design and color of the plates is wholly within the |
| 18 | | discretion of the Secretary. The Secretary may allow the |
| 19 | | plates to be issued as vanity plates or personalized under |
| 20 | | Section 3-405.1 of the Code. The Secretary shall prescribe |
| 21 | | stickers or decals as provided under Section 3-412 of this |
| 22 | | Code. The Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the |
| 23 | | plates to be issued as vanity or personalized plates in |

| 1 | | accordance with Section 3-405.1 of this Code. |
| 2 | | (c) An applicant for the special plate shall be charged a |
| 3 | | $25 fee for original issuance in addition to the appropriate |
| 4 | | registration fee. Of this fee, $10 shall be deposited into the |
| 5 | | Illinois Police Association Fund and $15 shall be deposited |
| 6 | | into the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund, to be |
| 7 | | used by the Secretary to help defray the administrative |
| 8 | | processing costs. |
| 9 | | For each registration renewal period, a $25 fee, in |
| 10 | | addition to the appropriate registration fee, shall be |
| 11 | | charged. Of this fee, $23 shall be deposited into the Illinois |
| 12 | | Police Association Fund and $2 shall be deposited into the |
| 13 | | Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund. |
| 14 | | (d) The Illinois Police Association Fund is created as a |
| 15 | | special fund in the State treasury. All money in the Illinois |
| 16 | | Police Association Fund shall be used, subject to |
| 17 | | appropriation, for providing death benefits for the families |
| 18 | | of police officers killed in the line of duty or the families |
| 19 | | of members of the Illinois Police Association dying of natural |
| 20 | | causes, and for providing scholarships, for graduate study, |
| 21 | | undergraduate study, or both, to children and spouses of |
| 22 | | police officers killed in the line of duty or to children and |
| 23 | | spouses of members of the Illinois Police Association dying of |
| 24 | | natural causes.
