AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 4228




2    AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 4228 by replacing 
3everything after the enacting clause with the following:




 
4    "Section 5. The Counties Code is amended  by adding Section 
53-6007.5 as follows:
 
6    (55 ILCS 5/3-6007.5  new)
7    Sec. 3-6007.5. Sheriff's salary.
8    (a) As used in this Section, "salary" is exclusive of any 
9other compensation or benefits.
10    (b) The salary of a sheriff elected or appointed after the 
11effective date of this amendatory Act of the 102nd General 
12Assembly in a non-home rule county shall not be less than 80% 
13of the salary set for the State's Attorney under Section 
144-2001 for the county in which the sheriff is elected or 
15appointed.
16    (c) The State shall furnish 66 2/3% of the total annual

1salary to be paid to a sheriff.  Said amounts furnished by the 
2State shall be payable monthly by the Department of Revenue 
3out of the General Revenue Fund to the county in which the 
4sheriff is elected or appointed. The county shall furnish 33 
51/3% of the total annual salary.
 

6    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect July 1, 
72022.".
