| 2 | | WHEREAS, The American Legion pioneered the Buddy Check |
| 3 | | concept under past National Commander Brett Reistad; and

| 4 | | WHEREAS, The intent was for all American Legion posts to |
| 5 | | conduct Buddy Checks twice a year, around American Legion's |
| 6 | | birthday and Veterans Day; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, The initiative demonstrated immediate success; |
| 8 | | soon, the Buddy Check program transitioned to year round, |
| 9 | | allowing American Legion posts to conduct these checks |
| 10 | | whenever it made the most sense on the local level; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, American Legion |
| 12 | | posts have used Buddy Checks to help obtain prescription |
| 13 | | refills for veterans confined to their homes and to connect |
| 14 | | with isolated veterans who might be missing their comrades; |
| 15 | | and

| 16 | | WHEREAS, In other cases, American Legion posts have |
| 17 | | delivered food, personal protective equipment, and other |
| 18 | | resources to veterans after learning about their needs during |
| 19 | | these wellness checks; and

| 20 | | WHEREAS, With a week dedicated to Buddy Checks across |
