HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, This year of 2022 marks the 50th anniversary of 
3the passing of Illinois State Trooper Frank R. Dunbar; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, It is important and appropriate to honor the men 
5and women of the Illinois State Police Division of Patrol for 
6their contributions to improving public safety; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar joined the Illinois State Police 
8on October 28, 1957 and was assigned to District 13 in DuQuoin; 
9and
  
 
10    WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar was killed in an automobile 
11accident on May 14, 1972 while patrolling Route 37, north of 
12Benton; and
  
 
13    WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar was the first state trooper in 26 
14years to be killed in the line of duty and the first to be 
15killed in a patrol car accident in Southern Illinois; and
  
 
  
16    WHEREAS, Trooper Dunbar's  service to  and sacrifice for the 
17people of Illinois should never be forgotten; therefore, be it
  
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
19HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE

1SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Illinois Route 37 
2north of the city of Benton and south of Lake Benton Road as 
3the "Trooper Frank R. Dunbar Memorial Highway"; and be it 
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation 
6is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with 
7State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs

8giving notice of the name of "Trooper Frank R. Dunbar Memorial 
9Highway"; and be it further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to the family of Trooper Dunbar.
