| 2 | | WHEREAS, Endometriosis is a condition where tissue similar |
| 3 | | to the lining of the uterus, which should only be located |
| 4 | | inside the uterus, is found elsewhere in the body; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, It is generally acknowledged that an estimated |
| 6 | | 10% of all women during their reproductive years are affected |
| 7 | | by endometriosis; this equates to 176 million women throughout |
| 8 | | the world who have to deal with the symptoms of endometriosis |
| 9 | | during the prime years of their lives, seven to ten million of |
| 10 | | whom are in the U.S.; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Many women suffer for seven to ten years before |
| 12 | | being properly diagnosed and treated for the disease; 30 to |
| 13 | | 40% of women with endometriosis are infertile; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Endometriosis costs the U.S. over $87 billion a |
| 15 | | year in medical costs and work productivity; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Federal research dollars for endometriosis amount |
| 17 | | to approximately 82 cents per patient every year; there is no |
| 18 | | cure, but treatment can reduce the intensity of the symptoms; |
| 19 | | and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Every 16 seconds a baby girl is born in the U.S. |
