| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION

| 2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | ||||||
| 3 | Representatives wish to congratulate Joe Eble on the occasion | ||||||
| 4 | of his retirement as recording secretary of the Southwestern | ||||||
| 5 | Illinois Central Labor Council; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Joe Eble started as recording secretary of the | ||||||
| 7 | Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council three decades ago; | ||||||
| 8 | he served the labor movement in the Metro-East area as an | ||||||
| 9 | invaluable source of information activity for many years, | ||||||
| 10 | recording labor events in the region and the State; he also | ||||||
| 11 | assisted in numerous training sessions and conventions on the | ||||||
| 12 | state and national level, in addition to pamphlet drops, phone | ||||||
| 13 | banks, and get-out-the-vote campaigns; and
| ||||||
| 14 | WHEREAS, Joe Eble was hired to teach Social Studies, | ||||||
| 15 | American History, German, and English by the Cahokia School | ||||||
| 16 | District 187 in 1968; and
| ||||||
| 17 | WHEREAS, Joe Eble became a building representative in | ||||||
| 18 | 1974, and he joined the bargaining team in 1975; he was elected | ||||||
| 19 | high school vice president by the Cahokia Commonfields | ||||||
| 20 | Federation of Teachers in 1977, where he later served as the | ||||||
| 21 | executive vice president and grievance committee chair; he | ||||||
| 22 | served as president of the union from 1990 to 1999; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Joe Eble joined the executive board of the | ||||||
| 2 | Illinois Federation of Teachers (IFT) in 1991 and its | ||||||
| 3 | executive committee in 1995; he remains a delegate to the | ||||||
| 4 | IFT's Southwest Area Council, where he served as the council's | ||||||
| 5 | treasurer from 1993 to 2016 and the secretary before that; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Joe Eble joined as the executive recording | ||||||
| 7 | secretary of the Belleville Trades and Labor Organization in | ||||||
| 8 | 2001 and continued in that role when the group became part of | ||||||
| 9 | the Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council; and
| ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Joe Eble broadened his efforts to include the | ||||||
| 11 | larger labor movement for almost 40 years; he served as the | ||||||
| 12 | treasurer of the 23rd District of the Committee on the | ||||||
| 13 | Political Education (COPE) and then the 21st District COPE; | ||||||
| 14 | until last year, he served as treasurer of the 12th District | ||||||
| 15 | COPE; and
| ||||||
| 16 | WHEREAS, Joe Eble is known as an untiring labor brother | ||||||
| 17 | who is always striving to help others in both the labor | ||||||
| 18 | movement and everyday life; he unanimously earned emeritus | ||||||
| 19 | status by the Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council's | ||||||
| 20 | executive board; therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 21 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||

| 1 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 2 | we congratulate Joe Eble on his retirement as recording | ||||||
| 3 | secretary of the Southwestern Illinois Central Labor Council, | ||||||
| 4 | thank him for his service to the labor movement, and wish him | ||||||
| 5 | many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it further
| ||||||
| 6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | ||||||
| 7 | presented to Joe Eble as an expression of our esteem and | ||||||
| 8 | respect.
