| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Steven |
| 4 | | R. "Steve" Allendorf of Galena, who passed away on February |
| 5 | | 12, 2021; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf was born to Kenneth "Pete" and |
| 7 | | Ada (Hunzelman) Allendorf on February 10, 1956; he grew up on |
| 8 | | his family's farm on Gear Street; he attended St. Mary's |
| 9 | | School, where he served as a hall monitor; he attended Galena |
| 10 | | High School as a member of the class of 1974; he earned his |
| 11 | | Associate in Police Science from Rock Valley College; he later |
| 12 | | obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of Dubuque; |
| 13 | | he married Dianne Brown at St. Mary's Church in Elizabeth in |
| 14 | | July 1977, and they had one child, Christopher, born in 1984; |
| 15 | | and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf started his career in law |
| 17 | | enforcement when he was still in high school; he worked at the |
| 18 | | old jail of the Jo Daviess County Sheriff's Office under |
| 19 | | then-Sheriff Marlo Specht; he eventually became a deputy |
| 20 | | sheriff; he then worked as a patrolman with the Galena Police |
| 21 | | Department and was promoted to sergeant; he was also an EMT |
| 22 | | with the Galena Ambulance; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, While serving the Galena Police Department, Steve |
| 2 | | Allendorf was elected sheriff in 1986; he was reelected four |
| 3 | | times; he served as the president of the Illinois Sheriff's |
| 4 | | Association; he was also selected to attend the FBI's National |
| 5 | | Academy for local and state law enforcement; he retired in |
| 6 | | 2005 after 19 years of service; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, After retiring as sheriff, Steve Allendorf worked |
| 8 | | for several architectural firms that specialized in government |
| 9 | | buildings; he also worked part time for the Elizabeth and |
| 10 | | Stockton Police Departments and as a substitute teacher; he |
| 11 | | served as the vice chair of the Jo Daviess County Board; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf loved to travel alongside his |
| 13 | | wife; he was proud of his son Chris and enjoyed seeing his son |
| 14 | | sworn in as the Jo Daviess County State's Attorney in January |
| 15 | | 2021; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf was proud of his law enforcement |
| 17 | | service and grateful for the relationships he made through the |
| 18 | | years; he was proud to see his employees and colleagues |
| 19 | | succeed and achieve their own dreams; he was a firm believer in |
| 20 | | second chances; and
|
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf was preceded in death by his |
| 22 | | parents; his grandparents, John and Anna Allendorf and Ivan |
|

| 1 | | and Emilie Hunzelman; and his uncles and aunts, Melvin and |
| 2 | | Betty Schultz, John "Bud" Allendorf, Charles and Mary Schultz, |
| 3 | | and Patricia Bruns; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Steve Allendorf is survived by his wife; his son |
| 5 | | and his granddog, Baron; his stepmother, Mildred (Stoewer) and |
| 6 | | her family; his brothers, Kenny (Carol) and Tom (Karen); his |
| 7 | | sister, Margaret (Steve) Vandermyde; his nieces and nephews; |
| 8 | | his aunt, Vivian Allendorf; his uncle, Gerald (Pauline) |
| 9 | | Allendorf; his numerous cousins; his father-in-law, James |
| 10 | | (Betty) Brown; his mother-in-law, Patricia Brown; his |
| 11 | | brothers-in-law, Mark (Becky), Mike (Jane), David (Dena), and |
| 12 | | Kevin (Dana) Brown; his sister-in-law, Kathy (Rex) Kreuder; |
| 13 | | and his numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
|
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 15 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 16 | | we mourn the passing of Steven R. "Steve" Allendorf and extend |
| 17 | | our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who |
| 18 | | knew and loved him; and be it further
|
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 20 | | presented to the family of Steve Allendorf as an expression of |
| 21 | | our deepest sympathy.
