HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, Strides for Peace was founded in response to the 
3high incidence of gun violence
occurring in Chicago; and
  
 
4    WHEREAS, The mission of Strides for Peace is to increase 
5the collective impact of community
organizations working to 
6stop gun violence, save lives, and build a stronger Chicago; 
7and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, The Race Against Gun Violence was launched by 
9Strides for Peace in 2014 to
bring the community together and 
10show the world that Chicago can come together to address
the 
11problem of gun violence and save lives; and
  
 
12    WHEREAS, The race is a rallying point to raise funds for 
13and awareness of what is being done
to end gun violence and 
14build a Chicago where all can thrive; and
  
 
15    WHEREAS, The date for this race was chosen to recognize 
16National Gun Violence Awareness
Month and the urgent need to 
17prevent gun violence, especially during the summer months, and

18to provide a platform for members of the Chicagoland community 
19to come together to be part of
the solution to this problem; 
20and

1    WHEREAS, Strides for Peace is hosting the Race Against Gun 
2Violence on the evening of
September 23, 2021 at 6pm at Arvey 
3Field in Grant Park, with a virtual option for those unable to 
4attend in person; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
6HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we recognize and support the Race Against Gun Violence hosted 
8by Strides for Peace and the larger effort to address and 
9prevent gun violence in the City of Chicago; and be it further
  
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
11presented to Strides for Peace as a symbol of our respect and 
12esteem.
