HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Alderman-At-Large Robert J. O'Connor on his retirement from public service after serving the citizens of Aurora for 36 years; and

WHEREAS, Alderman O'Connor graduated from East Aurora High School, the University of Illinois, and the University of Notre Dame Law School; and

WHEREAS, Alderman O'Connor is an attorney in Aurora and practices law in the areas of estate planning, wills and trusts, and real estate representation; and

WHEREAS, Alderman O'Connor was first elected to the Aurora City Council in 1985; after the early retirement of Aurora Mayor Thomas J. Weisner, he was unanimously elected by his Aurora City Council colleagues to serve as mayor from October 2016 to May 2017; he presently serves as the chairman of the Finance Committee and as a member of Building, Zoning, and Economic Development (BZE) of the city council; and

WHEREAS, Alderman O'Connor additionally serves as a member on the State of Illinois Council on Aging and as a board member of the Northeastern Illinois Area Agency on Aging (AgeGuide Northeastern Illinois), The Aurora Police Foundation, and the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley; he is also a member of the Aurora Exchange Club and the Kane County Bar Association; and

WHEREAS, Alderman O'Connor is married to Mary, a retired teacher who taught for over two decades at East Aurora District 131; they have two sons, Tom, who is married to Teresa Waldinger, and John; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Alderman-At-Large Robert J. O'Connor on his retirement from public service and thank him for his 36 years of dedication to the citizens of Aurora; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Alderman O'Connor as an expression of our esteem and respect.
