| 2 | | WHEREAS, The rates of unintentional injuries and deaths in |
| 3 | | the United States remain at unacceptable levels; and

| 4 | | WHEREAS, Risk identification, pandemic-related safety |
| 5 | | concerns, psychological safety, and advancing organizational |
| 6 | | safety remain critical to preventing injuries and deaths in |
| 7 | | the United States; and
|
| 8 | | WHEREAS, The cost of unintentional injuries to Americans |
| 9 | | and their employers exceeds $1,097.9 billion each year and |
| 10 | | causes great suffering among individuals and their families; |
| 11 | | and |
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Illinois residents and all Americans deserve to |
| 13 | | live in communities that promote safe and healthy living; and |
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Preventing unintentional injuries and deaths |
| 15 | | requires the cooperation of all levels of government, |
| 16 | | employers, and the general public; and |
| 17 | | WHEREAS, The National Safety Council, founded in 1913, was |
| 18 | | congressionally chartered in 1953 to lead this nation in |
| 19 | | injury prevention through safety and health information, |
| 20 | | education, training, and advocacy in the United States; and
