| 1 | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| ||||||
| 2 | WHEREAS, Treatment courts have been restoring lives and | ||||||
| 3 | families for more
than three decades; and
| ||||||
| 4 | WHEREAS, There are now nearly 4,000 treatment courts | ||||||
| 5 | nationwide; and | ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Treatment courts are the cornerstone of justice | ||||||
| 7 | reform sweeping
the nation; and | ||||||
| 8 | WHEREAS, Treatment courts have served 1.5 million | ||||||
| 9 | individuals; and | ||||||
| 10 | WHEREAS, Treatment courts are now recognized as the most | ||||||
| 11 | successful justice system
intervention in our nation's | ||||||
| 12 | history; and
| ||||||
| 13 | WHEREAS, Treatment courts save an average of $6,000 for | ||||||
| 14 | every individual they serve; and
| ||||||
| 15 | WHEREAS, Treatment courts significantly improve substance | ||||||
| 16 | use disorder
treatment outcomes and substantially reduce | ||||||
| 17 | addiction and related crime
at less expense than any other | ||||||
| 18 | criminal justice strategy; and
| ||||||

| 1 | WHEREAS, Treatment courts improve education, employment, | ||||||
| 2 | housing, and
financial stability, promote family | ||||||
| 3 | reunification, reduce foster care placements,
and increase the | ||||||
| 4 | rate of addicted mothers delivering babies who are fully drug
| ||||||
| 5 | free; and
| ||||||
| 6 | WHEREAS, Treatment courts facilitate community-wide | ||||||
| 7 | partnerships by bringing
together public safety and public | ||||||
| 8 | health professionals; and | ||||||
| 9 | WHEREAS, Treatment courts demonstrate that when one person | ||||||
| 10 | rises out of substance use and crime then we all rise; | ||||||
| 11 | therefore, be it
| ||||||
| 12 | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | ||||||
| 13 | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | ||||||
| 14 | we declare May 2021 as Drug Court Month in the State of | ||||||
| 15 | Illinois.
