| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Thomas Q. Weitzel on the |
| 4 | | occasion of his retirement as police chief for the City of |
| 5 | | Riverside; and

| 6 | | WHEREAS, Chief Weitzel has been with the Riverside Police |
| 7 | | Department since
September 1984; he has held various positions |
| 8 | | within the department, including Crime Prevention Coordinator, |
| 9 | | Evidence Technician, Public Information Officer
(PIO), MCAT |
| 10 | | member (Major Crime Assistance Team), Field Training Officer, |
| 11 | | and Internal
Affairs Supervisor; he became police chief in |
| 12 | | 2008; prior to joining the Riverside Police Department, he |
| 13 | | served as a patrolman for the Chicago
Zoological Park Police |
| 14 | | at Brookfield Zoo; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Chief Weitzel has received the Kevlar/DuPont |
| 16 | | Survivor's Club Award (1987), the Police Valor Award (1997), |
| 17 | | the Police Medal of Honor (1998), the
Distinguished Public |
| 18 | | Servant Award (2005), the Cook County Sheriff's Law |
| 19 | | Enforcement Award of Merit (2006), and the Gazette Newspaper |
| 20 | | Public Official of the Year Award (2006); he has over 200 |
| 21 | | Honorable Mentions and Commendation letters from citizens and |
| 22 | | police departments and is a published author on the subject of |
| 23 | | law enforcement; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Chief Weitzel is a member of the Fraternal Order |
| 2 | | of Police, the Police Benevolent Association, the Illinois |

Association, the Northwestern University Alumni |
| 4 | | Association, the International Association for Identification, |
| 5 | | the Illinois
Crime Prevention Officers Association, the West |
| 6 | | Suburban Chiefs of Police Association, and the Illinois |
| 7 | | Association of Chiefs of Police; and |
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Chief Weitzel holds a master's degree in criminal |
| 9 | | social justice from Lewis University
and is a graduate of the |
| 10 | | Illinois Law Enforcement Executive Institute's Executive |
| 11 | | Management program; he was
recently honored as a Certified |
| 12 | | Police Chief for the State of Illinois; and |
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Chief Weitzel is a graduate of the Northwestern |
| 14 | | University Center for Public Safety School of Staff and |
| 15 | | Command, where he served
as Vice President of Class 115; he |
| 16 | | holds certificates of graduation from the Institute of Police

| 17 | | Technology and Management at the University of North Florida, |
| 18 | | the National Crime Prevention Institute in Louisville,
|
| 19 | | Kentucky, the F.B.I National Academy in Quantico, Virginia |

| 7 | | chief for the City of Riverside, and we wish him the best in |
