| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Arthur |
| 4 | | Goodwin, who passed away on May 14, 2021; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Arthur Goodwin graduated from South Shore High |
| 6 | | School in 1985; and |
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Arthur Goodwin was the head basketball coach for |
| 8 | | Bogan High School, where the program was virtually |
| 9 | | non-existent prior to his arrival; he was affectionately known |
| 10 | | as "Goodie" and turned the Bengals into a powerhouse; and
|
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Arthur Goodwin won nine regional championships, |
| 12 | | two sectional titles, and a Public League championship in |
| 13 | | 2015; his 2018-19 team that lost in overtime to East St. Louis |
| 14 | | in the Class 3A state championship won a school record 30 |
| 15 | | games; he won without big-named players; he got his players to |
| 16 | | play hard, compete, and play together; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Arthur Goodwin was not only a program builder but |
| 18 | | also a nurturer of players; the behind-the-scenes care he had |
| 19 | | for his players and the relationships he built had a |
| 20 | | tremendous impact; he was in school every day and engaged with |
| 21 | | students, teachers, and staff; when there was a problem, |
