HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Arthur 
4Goodwin, who passed away on May 14, 2021; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Arthur Goodwin graduated from South Shore High 
6School in 1985; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Arthur Goodwin was the head basketball coach for 
8Bogan High School, where the program was virtually 
9non-existent prior to his arrival; he was affectionately known 
10as "Goodie" and turned  the Bengals into a powerhouse; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Arthur Goodwin won nine regional championships, 
12two sectional titles, and a Public League championship in 
132015; his 2018-19 team that lost in overtime to East St. Louis 
14in the Class 3A state championship won a school record 30 
15games; he won without big-named players; he got his players to 
16play hard, compete, and play together; and
  
 
17    WHEREAS, Arthur Goodwin was not only a program builder but 
18also a nurturer of players; the behind-the-scenes care he had 
19for his players and the relationships he built had a 
20tremendous impact; he was in school every day and  engaged with 
21students, teachers, and staff; when there was a problem,

1people would seek his guidance; he knew how to lead and move 
2things along; and
  
 
  
3    WHEREAS, Arthur Goodwin was always able to deliver a 
4message that kids could relate to, because he knew them so 
5well; he had an uncanny ability to identify the strengths and 
6weaknesses of every kid, and he treated them each 
7individually; he wanted to know everything about a kid, even 
8after the players left his program; he wanted to keep up with 
9their lives; he never let any relationship go; therefore, be 
10it
  
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
12HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
13we mourn the passing of Arthur Goodwin and extend our sincere 
14condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved 
15him; and be it further
  
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
17presented to          the family of Arthur Goodwin as an expression of 
18our esteem and respect.
