HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, On May 19, 2021, Illinois State Representative 
3William Davis (Democrat) and Illinois State Representative and 
4Assistant Minority Leader Tim Butler (Republican), as 
5co-chairs, established the Illinois Statehouse Taiwan 
6Friendship Caucus; and
  
 
7    WHEREAS, The Illinois Statehouse Taiwan Friendship Caucus 
8is initiated during the tenure of Johnson Chiang, Director 
9General of the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office for the 
10Midwestern states located in Chicago; and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, The Illinois House will be the first statehouse 
12to establish a Taiwan Friendship Caucus, and the caucus has 
13bi-partisan support; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, Taiwan shares the same values of freedom, 
15democracy, human rights, the rule of law, peace, and 
16prosperity with the United States and the State of Illinois; 
17and
  
 
18    WHEREAS, The Illinois Statehouse Taiwan Friendship Caucus 
19will continue the bilateral relationship with Taiwan and will 
20continue to affirm and support its meaningful participation in 
21international organizations; and

1    WHEREAS, The Illinois Statehouse Taiwan Friendship Caucus 
2will continue to reaffirm a commitment to strengthening and 
3deepening the sister ties between the State of Illinois and 
4Taiwan; therefore, be it
  
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
6HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
7we commemorate the formation of  the Illinois Statehouse Taiwan 
8Friendship Caucus; and be it further
  
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution  be 
10presented to Director General Johnson Chiang as the diplomatic 
11representative of Taiwan for the Midwestern states located in 
12Chicago.
