| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate Sheriff Roger Scott on |
| 4 | | his retirement on June 23, 2021 after over 50 years of faithful |
| 5 | | service with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Scott served his country in the United |
| 7 | | States Air Force from 1965 to 1969 before he began his long and |
| 8 | | distinguished career with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office; |
| 9 | | after receiving an honorable discharge from the Air Force with |
| 10 | | the rank of sergeant, he started as a radio operator and |
| 11 | | jailor; and
|
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Scott has served as the DeKalb County |
| 13 | | Sheriff since being appointed in 1985 and first elected in |
| 14 | | 1986; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Scott created and developed dozens of |
| 16 | | Sheriffs' Citizens Police Academies from 1996 to 2020, |
| 17 | | established a Domestic Violence Unit in 2005, was a founding |
| 18 | | member of the DeKalb County Major Crime Unit, and was a member |
| 19 | | of the 911 Steering Committee in 1988; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Scott's accomplishments as sheriff |
| 21 | | include the Governor's Award for Excellence in Training in |
|

| 1 | | 1999, the National Sheriffs' Association Presidential Award |
| 2 | | for distinguished service in 2010, and serving as president of |
| 3 | | the Illinois Sheriffs' Association from 2005 to 2006; and
|
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Scott was born and raised in DeKalb |
| 5 | | County and lives in DeKalb with his wife, Marcia, and his |
| 6 | | children; they are members of the Waterman Bible Church; and
|
| 7 | | WHEREAS, Sheriff Scott and Marcia have raised three |
| 8 | | biological children and seven adopted children and have |
| 9 | | fostered almost 40 children since 1989; therefore, be it
|
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE |
| 11 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 12 | | we congratulate Sheriff Roger Scott on his retirement on June |
| 13 | | 23, 2021 after over 50 years of faithful service with the |
| 14 | | DeKalb County Sheriff's Office; and be it further
|
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That we declare June 23, 2021 as Sheriff Roger |
| 16 | | Scott Day in the State of Illinois to honor his dedication to |
| 17 | | DeKalb County and the State of Illinois; and be it further
|
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be |
| 19 | | presented to Sheriff Scott and the DeKalb County Sheriff's |
| 20 | | Office as an expression of our esteem and respect.
