HOUSE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 
3Representatives wish to congratulate Sharone Mitchell Jr. on 
4being appointed Cook County Public Defender; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Sharone Mitchell, prior to becoming the Cook 
6County Public Defender, served as Director
of the Illinois 
7Justice Project
(April  2014-July 2016), as a Criminal Defense 
8Attorney
with the Cook County Public Defender's Office

9(February 2010-July 2016), and as a Criminal Defense Legal 
10Intern
with Cabrini-Green Legal Aid
(2007- 2009); and
  
 
11    WHEREAS, Sharone Mitchell, as Director
of the Illinois 
12Justice Project,  was instrumental in helping to craft the 
13criminal justice reform bill that Gov. JB Pritzker signed into 
14law; he was especially involved in the provision eliminating 
15cash bail in the State; and
  
 
  
16    WHEREAS, Sharone Mitchell is a lifelong resident of Cook 
17County; he was raised in the West Pullman neighborhood of 
18Chicago and graduated from Morgan Park High School; he 
19received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the 
20University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and his  Juris Doctor 
21from the DePaul University College of Law; and

1    WHEREAS, Sharone Mitchell has promised to serve as an 
2engine for progressive system change; therefore, be it
  
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE 
4HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 
5we congratulate Sharone Mitchell Jr. on being appointed Cook 
6County Public Defender and wish him the best in his new role; 
7and be it further
  
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
9presented to Sharone Mitchell as a symbol of our respect and 
10esteem.
