| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Dora |
| 4 | | Jean Nash-Foster of Chicago, who passed away on June 12, 2021; |
| 5 | | and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster was born in Chicago to |
| 7 | | Jewel and Dora Mae Woods-Nash on September 28, 1944; she |
| 8 | | attended Sexton Elementary School and Jenner Elementary |
| 9 | | School; she graduated from Wells High School at the age of 16 |
| 10 | | in 1961; she earned her bachelor's degree in Sociology and her |
| 11 | | master's degree in Vocational Guidance and Counseling from |
| 12 | | Roosevelt University in Chicago; she obtained several |
| 13 | | certifications and earned many continuing education credits in |
| 14 | | a variety of subjects as she maintained her state licenses; |
| 15 | | she married Becelone Foster on December 19, 1964; and
|
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster worked in the public |
| 17 | | service sector for the majority of her life; she held a number |
| 18 | | of positions, including Audio/Visual specialist at Ogden |
| 19 | | Elementary, Education Advisor and Community Liaison at Jesse |
| 20 | | White's Community Service Center, salesperson at Sears, and |
| 21 | | case manager with the Illinois Department of Public Aid; she |
| 22 | | later became a teacher; she began as an 8th grade teacher and |
| 23 | | then taught pre-school and pre-kindergarten at Mulligan |

| 1 | | Elementary School and Manierre Elementary School before |
| 2 | | working permanently at Byrd Academy; prior to retirement, she |
| 3 | | worked as a counselor for students at Harold Washington |
| 4 | | College; and
|
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster was a faithful member of |
| 6 | | several organizations, including both the local and national |
| 7 | | P.T.A. since 1968, AFSCME and the Chicago Teacher's Unions for |
| 8 | | 30 years, the 42nd Ward Democratic Organization for over 13 |
| 9 | | years, and the Rainbow P.U.S.H. Coalition led by Reverend |
| 10 | | Jesse Jackson; she committed to her faith from a young age; she |
| 11 | | was baptized at and a charter member of Gospel Temple |
| 12 | | Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend |
| 13 | | J.M. Royston, where she had served as an annual tea captain, a |
| 14 | | Sunday School teacher, and a Mother's Board member; she also |
| 15 | | attended service weekly until illness no longer allowed her to |
| 16 | | be physically present; and
|
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster loved traveling, especially |
| 18 | | with her traveling buddies Barbara Smith, Joyce Brisco, and |
| 19 | | Deborah Alexander, and one of her fondest memories was |
| 20 | | traveling to her granddaughter's college graduation in New |
| 21 | | Orleans, Louisiana; she was also fluent in Spanish, and she |
| 22 | | loved demonstrating her skills when she dined at Mexican |
| 23 | | restaurants; and
|

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster was a loving, nurturing, |
| 2 | | and supportive mother and grandmother; she was a model to her |
| 3 | | family of the importance of being a lifelong learner; she |
| 4 | | affectionately referred to her granddaughters as her "boogies" |
| 5 | | and was adamant about spending time with them as they grew |
| 6 | | older; she will always be remembered for her vibrant smile, |
| 7 | | her warm heart, her African and animal print attire, and her |
| 8 | | signature red lipstick; and
|
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster was preceded in death by |
| 10 | | her grandparents; her parents; her brother, Glen Jewel |
| 11 | | "Scooter" Nash; her granddaughter, Fiona Lanese Nash; her |
| 12 | | aunts and uncles; her cousin, Patricia Bradley; and her best |
| 13 | | friend and sister, Barbara Smith; and
|
| 14 | | WHEREAS, Dora Jean Nash-Foster is survived by her sons, |
| 15 | | Craig Eugene Nash and Cary Allen Foster; her daughter-in-law, |
| 16 | | Debra Nash; her granddaughters, Serena Spring Thomas (Andrew) |
| 17 | | and Jessica Shante Nash; her great-grandson due in October |
| 18 | | 2021; her niece, Tandolyn Harris; her best friends and |
| 19 | | sisters, Mary "Mae C" Booker and Joyce Brisco; her |
| 20 | | godchildren, Andrew Brisco, Daneka Booker, and Nikki Booker; |
| 21 | | and a host of cousins, family, friends, and colleagues; |
| 22 | | therefore, be it

| 1 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that |
| 2 | | we mourn the passing of Dora Jean Nash-Foster and extend our |

| 4 | | and loved her; and be it further
|
| 5 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
| 6 | | presented to the family of Dora Jean Nash-Foster as an |
