| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
| 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Charles |
| 4 | | "Charlie" W. Dukes of Georgetown, who passed away on June 15, |
| 5 | | 2021; and
|
| 6 | | WHEREAS, Charlie Dukes was born in Georgetown on March 30, |
| 7 | | 1923 to Russell and Florence {Taylor} Dukes; he enlisted in |
| 8 | | the Army in 1942; he was wounded and captured on Thanksgiving |
| 9 | | Day in 1944; after his discharge from the Army on December 14, |
| 10 | | 1945, he finished college and married his college sweetheart, |
| 11 | | Grace Marie Schwab; they had four children, Debra (David) |
| 12 | | Small, Laurie Holman, Kent (Melinda) Dukes, and Robin (Diane) |
| 13 | | Dukes, as well as eight grandchildren and ten |
| 14 | | great-grandchildren and celebrated 71 years together; and
|
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Charlie Dukes worked as a banker and had other |
| 16 | | self-employed ventures; in retirement, he spent his time |
| 17 | | speaking to students as a living link to history; he |
| 18 | | emphasized self-discipline and cautioned young people to guard |
| 19 | | their freedom; and
|
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Charlie Dukes was a lifetime member of American |
| 21 | | Legion Dornblaser Post #203 in Georgetown; he helped to |
| 22 | | establish the Memorial Honor roll located on the square in |
