HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate the Western Springs 11U All-Stars baseball team on winning the Illinois Little League State Championship for District 9 on July 30, 2021; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois Little League State Tournament, held in Moline, was a double elimination tournament; the Western Springs 11U All-Stars went unbeaten into the final game against River Forest, who had a third round loss to Western Springs; Western Springs lost the first game to River Forest on Thursday night and returned Friday for the final game versus River Forest; and

WHEREAS, The final game of the Western Springs 11U All Stars was a team effort led by the complete game pitching of John Bukovac and strong plays in the infield by second baseman Marty Svelnis and third baseman Luke Garofola; a final double play ground ball from short stop Jimmy Broderick to first baseman Owen Thiede concluded the final game, which also included key hits by catcher Frankie Zimmer, Luke Garofola, Owen Thiede, and John Bukovac; and

WHEREAS, The Western Springs 11U All-Stars won the final game in a tight, exciting 4-3 victory; and

WHEREAS, The Western Springs 11U All-Stars are Jimmy Broderick, John Bukovac, Daniel Caldwell, Ryan Caraher Jr., Murphy Cella, Lincoln DeMauro, Charlie Drai, Luke Garofola, Sam Schmidt, Marty Svelnis, Owen Thiede, and Frankie Zimmer; and

WHEREAS, The Western Springs 11U All-Stars are led by Manager Jeff Thiede and Assistant Coaches Brian Caldwell and Anthony DeMauro; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the Western Springs 11U All-Stars baseball team on winning the Illinois Little League State Championship, and we wish them continued success in their future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be presented to Manager Jeff Thiede, Assistant Coaches Brian Caldwell and Anthony DeMauro, and each player on the Western Springs 11U All-Stars baseball team as an expression of our respect and esteem.
